New Bands?

    I am always looking for new bands to listen too. There a ton of indies out there, but there are also a bunch of signed bands that only get limited air play in a particular part of the country or they are still struggling to be heard. Those are the bands I want to know about, the underground Metal Maniacs.

    I recently stumbled onto a really cool band while listening to an internet radio station called Disarray. I only heard one song, but it was enough to make me drop by UBL and check them out. I may even try to find their album around town. Check them out.

    Just saw this thread - not sure how I missed it, given how much time I spend around here. As the "new guy" around here thought I would share some of the stuff that I have been listening too, most of it isn't new, but maybe some of it will be new to you (sorry, no metal Atomm, but some of the epitaph & Fat Wreck stuff leans that way a little bit):

    Hepcat: If you like 1960's classic jamacaian ska, this band is for you. Awesome live show, saw them with NOFX a few years back.

    Slackers: Another modern ska band that sounds like they could be from the 1960's sometimes. They do a great cover of Bon Jovi's "wanted dead or alive"

    Flogging Molly: "A guiness soaked body blow" is what I heard and had to check these guys out. They are simply an amazing Irish-Punk band http://www.floggingmolly.com . I have their Drunken Lullabies CD at it blows me away each time I listen.

    Black 47: Another Irish band that mixes rap/reggae/folk/rock together with some politics http://www.black47.com

    No Use For A Name: Stumbled upon these guys via Fat Wreck Chords (http://www.fatwreck.com/). Good fun pop-punk with an occassional message here and there. Can get some excellent mp3's via Fat Wreck of these guys as well as some other good bands. I recommend NOFX, Swingin' Utters, Consumed, Me First and the Gimme Gimme's (great cover band), Lagwagon, and Dillinger Four - who btw are going to be in OKC in march.

    On the softer side of things have been a huge fan of Uncle Tupelo and the Jayhawks for years. More recently found a band via the Digital Club Network called the Pernice Brothers (http://www.dcn.com/contest/band_page.jsp?artist_id=6813). Listened to this live show and it was really good.

    80's Power Metal is the best, in my opinion... and I'm not talking about the Hair or Glam bands like Poison or Motely Crue. I'm talking some really good metal with some incredible ballads, unbelievable guitar riffs, and a strong front man.

    Couple bands that come to mind are Jag Panzer, Helstar, Riot, The Rods, Anvil just to name a few. Of course, in the same timeframe bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath (with Dio) and Motorhead were still thriving.

    As for today's Nu Metal bands.. I'm not really into them too much.. however, I do like some Godsmack, Disturbed is ok and even a dash of Slipknot, but that's as far as it goes.

    Ultimately, I've always been a big fan of Thrash/Hard Core.. Sick of All, Murphy's Law, S.O.D., M-80, New Bomb Turks, DRI, and Madball had some good tunes.

    Wooo.... Sick of it all rocks.... almost all the hard core off of Victory Records is pretty damn good.

    I have alot of the Victory Style comiplations. Its funny cuz they always stick at least one song that is so far from Hardcore, but its usually a real good song. Victory Style III is my fav.

    I've never seen those. I will have to check it out.

    I was a metallica/anthrax fan in the 80's. I'm crazy about Slipknot now. I actually dig the Nu-Metal bands. Of course, if you listen to the station, you will be able to tell that. :-) I've tried to keep the sound along the lines of Disturbed, Manson, Tool and Rammstein. It must be working because we had over 6000 hours of Total Listening Time in the last 30 days. I just hope we can keep it up.

    My biggest thing personally, is I am always on the look out for something different or new. I love all sorts of music from Rap to Rock to Metal to Blues (Southern Delta). Heck, I even like some Country. Just keep that Fusion Jazz away from me. My biggest thing is I like a hard driving beat. I can't explain it, but certain songs just speak to me. Slipknot is like that. Having seen them live twice, I can honestly say they are the heaviest freaking band I have ever seen.

    The ex-frontman for The Stereo just released some demos of his upcoming solo project. This one in particular has a really catchy chorus if you can get past the 80's drums:

    NOFX is probably the best band i've ever seen live. They played for nearly 2 hours non-stop when i saw them once. Blew me away:

    not really sure if yall would like this but some good "indie type" bands that i have heard and enjoyed....

    death cab (?) for cutie...and if you like them then you would dig on the postal service.

    also if anyone enjoyed the toadies then yall would like the burden bros. after the toadies broke up the lead singer formed the new band. pretty much the same stuff just with new members and a new name.

    broken social scene is also nice.

    also i'm not really into the country scene but breaky gave me some cross canadian ragweed stuff, and its growing on me (i really hate country).

    i'm sure these arent new to most people but fairly new to me (within a year or so), so i thought i would post them here.
