Riaa is just digging their grave deeper every day , this poor guy did nothing wrong and im hoping that the rolling stones wouldnt agree with something like this move. did you guys post about the woman who countersued the riaa under gang laws?

Perhaps if the masses hadn't been worshiping these movie and music stars for years on end, hanging on thier every word, following them blindly into the political areana, things may not have gotten so bad.

Stars wanted more then they were ever worth. They struck for royalites that go on forever. This is just a means to give them what they wanted. Most of this crap passed with liberals leading the way, but lately even the conservatives have found thier pockets well greased as well.

The only way to stop RIAA, Hollywood, and all thier bastard music spawns is to totally ignore them and boycott thier goods and services. As long as you hold J Roberts and Springstein up on a pedistal, I say your getting what you deserve.

I would bet that 80-95% of the artists you support and love enough to expose on your radio stations are completely against you on this. RIAA means money in thier pockets.

wow. Actually somewhere around 90% (or more) of the artists that are on GR2 are on record labels that are not part of the RIAA and regularly get screwed by them for royalties due to the way that they are estimated and collected. These are the artists that will lose out if the new rates go into effect because so much of their music is just not heard on commercial terrestrial radio because it will never sell a million copies.

The RIAA is just trying to protect a business model (the Album) that has been made moot by technology. Now that people can get just what they want via the internet (legally or illegally) album sales have dropped precipitously because people no longer will buy 11 crappy songs to hear the 1 or 2 that they like.

It's not the liberals or conservatives that have set up this quagmire so I'm not sure why you had to bring that into it.

I just want to add a VERY important item to this list.

Only around 15% of music sales are online or from other sources. 85% or so of music sales are still in CD form so I honestly do not understand the RIAA here at all!

I am unsure of the actual numbers but this is what I heard on a radio interview. I of course could be wrong.


Overall sales are down for CD's while digital are up so this will change.

Either way the main point is they are selling and making money.

CD Sales are down and Digital Singles are up. There is a big difference here.

As for the making money comment, if you were spending $100 to make $200, then one day you had to spend $100 to make $125, would you be happy? What about a public corporation whose stockholders expect the company to always make more money than previously?

I don't agree with the liberal comment either Lexx. However, I do believe that politics has helped put us in this situation.

I'm sorry but that is how I see it. Too long, 40yrs until 1993 demos held the house and senate and controlled federal judge appointments. The next decade afterward was just more rubberstamping, with a bit of war thrown in to confuse the voters.

This is a spinoff of corrupt politics and hollywood, approved by congress and given the nod from the district courts. I don't really care what its charter is(was), its been bought and paid for by special interest groups.

If Springsteen wants to prosecute a 12yr old for having a pirated song, then expect a buck of royality from the lawsuit, I say F him and the entire industry.

I'm truely sorry you guys are caught in the middle of this, but I see it as a totally political issue lobbied from the left.

Lexx I think you will notice our supreme court in fact is a non-liberal conservative court. I think you would also note that until a few months ago so was the house and the senate.

I think politics has a play in this only to the extent that all politicians are good at taking money in return for compromising their integrity.

I don't know that I have 90%, but I know GR1 has a higher percentage of non-RIAA label bands than the average station. The top artists on GR1 are all on smaller labels.

A1DS, missed that post the first time through the thread. That's a good article on an interesting tactic in the battle against the RIAA. It's about time someone slap them for being the 800-pound gorilla that they are. I don't know that it will work, but it'll be another thorn in their side. Thanks for the info.
