Have you heard about Radioheads independent release next week? This could be a big deal as they are offering the DRM free download for whatever price you want to pay. Think about this for a second.
I am not a huge radiohead fan, but I am going to buy this album simply because what it represents. I'm thinking 5.95 sounds about right.
It is being released only through their website and you can pay whatever you want for it - including nothing. If you want a CD version it will cost you around $80 but you get a whole bunch of extra stuff as well.

Send a signal to the Record Labels, buy the Radiohead Release, even if it's a few bucks.
It could be that the bands are going to do what the record companies and consumers couldn't - force a paradigm shift in the sales and distribution of music. Good on them. As a bonus, music will cost less, but the artists will get more of the money. Did you see in the article where the head of EMI was surprised at how much record company execs make when he took over the company? I wonder how many ppl's job will be affected by this.
You know, it just occurred to me, if I pay $5.99 for this album, then Radiohead will actually make 60,000 times more than the 10 cents they usually get per album.
Trent Reznor is another person fed up with the record label. I would look for him to follow this lead after his last contractual album is delivered.

I’m here to tell you today that I for one am no longer going to fall into this trap. If the licensing labels offer their content to Yahoo! put more barriers in front of the users, I’m not interested. Do what you feel you need to do for your business, I’ll be polite, say thank you, and decline to sign. I won’t let Yahoo! invest any more money in consumer inconvenience. I will tell Yahoo! to give the money they were going to give me to build awesome media applications to Yahoo! Mail or Answers or some other deserving endeavor. I personally don’t have any more time to give and can’t bear to see any more money spent on pathetic attempts for control instead of building consumer value. Life’s too short. I want to delight consumers, not bum them out.

Reports are that the album is really good. I haven't got it yet but plan to.
🍻 to Radiohead for making this work and pocketing the $$$ instead of a record label.
