RIAA and MPAA Take Hits This Week

Talks about the RIAA publishing the contents of an Army Seargents Kazaa folder as evidence, including porn, then having to remove said evidence.

But, that's not what struck me as ironic. Near the end of the article:

This is not the first time the RIAA has been caught using questionable tactics. After Oregon resident Tanya Andersen, who was mistakenly accused of copyright infringement by the record labels, was exonerated, she sued the RIAA for malicious prosecution. In her complaint, she accused the record labels of trying to contact her then eight-year-old daughter without her knowledge, even calling her elementary school under false pretenses.

Holy Crap!!!! Did I read that right? The RIAA was stalking down an 8 Year old for her milk money at school? If that doesn't ring of extortion, I don't know what does.....

Next, the MPAA makes illegal copies of a movie that the copyright holder specifically stated they could not copy. In a bizarre twist, the movie is about the hypocrisy of the MPAA, especially the way they handle ratings for movies. LOLZ!

I saw this last year on a yahoo.com headlines. B Springsteen was overheard in a NY nightclub saying he hoped the kid would be taken to court, and he wanted his buck commission from the lawsuit. As I read the article at the time, it was a 12yr old, but Springsteen was wanting his pound of flesh. The pompous amount of greed these assholes have really amazes me.

Since this entire episode with RIAA started with the radio stations, had I any involvement with GR1 or 2, I'd dump any artist that agrees or pays fees into that standard.

If you have a link to this, I'd like it. I did 20 mins of Google searching, I couldn't find it. This "overheard in a nightclub" thing sounds like bloggers hearsay. I'm not saying he didn't say it, but I'm saying it sounds like a questionable source to be vilifying him for the past year, as you have been.

No I don't have a link for something from a year ago 😛 I don't read any blogs, just yahoo.com, and perhaps foxnews.com, etc. I know its a topic I've either read or heard a long time back.

The sad part of this is the artist is getting screwed as well.....

This is an old article, but it talks about how much money each entity gets from a .99 Itunes song. In fact, since this article, Apple has opened up to allow non-major label artists. These "indies" are said to get as much as 3-4 times money from an Itunes sale than a major label artist.

It's time to pull a walmart on the record labels asses and cut out the middle man and split the profit with the artist.......
