So, I went to see DMB

I have never been a big fan of Dave Mathews Band, but I have enjoyed them from time to time musically.

My wife is a HUGE fan of DMB so a couple nights ago I took her to see them. I will say that they put on one hell of a show and look like they are really having fun up there. That is one thing that makes me enjoy a band, no matter the type of music. If they act like they are having a blast, I get a kick out of watching them...

The drummer is truly amazing and so is the violin player.

All in all, I really enjoyed it...

The only thing that bugged me was all the hippies text messaging non stop while they walk up and down stairs... PUT THE IPHONES AWAY AND WATCH THE DAMN SHOW!!!

Was it at the Ford Center? We went to see Creed (I went for Sevendust) and I thought someone was going to die. The steps were steep as hell and all the drunks kept spilling their beer.

As you can imagine, it kept getting worse as the night went on because the steps were getting slicker. heh

I think seeing a band live really tells you a lot about them. I saw The Smithereens at The Bricktown Brewery. I wasn't a big fan, but it was free tickets and all the hot girls hung out there. After seeing them live, in a small setting, I became a huge fan. They put on an incredible show and seemed to have fun doing it.

Then there is the oppositie experience for The Smashing Pumpkins Linkin Park. After seeing them live, I was really turned off. They were assholes and didn't seem to care that people came to see a show. That kind of indifference makes me sick as a music fan.

We were at the Bricktown Ball park. So it was outside, but actually a nice evening.

Yeah, I really got a kick out of the way they acted...

It is one of the reasons I like Primus... Les just acted like a goof ball on stage and that showed that he was enjoying what he did...

And holy crap, DMB did two cover songs... Burning Down the House and Sledgehammer...





Same tour in these videos, but not from OKC... They did a GREAT job with these covers...

In college when DMB was really big, a girl invited me to go with her. At the time I hated DMB, but in retrospect the girl was hot and the band is decent, I should have gone.

But I agree seeing the band is having fun makes any concert great. I went to see the Allman Bros. play and the fun they were having during one of the jams was infectious. It was one of the better concerts I have seen and I am not a huge fan of theirs.

The phenomnon that I have not seen but heard of that is insane to me is people holding up their phones (ala lighter of the 80's) at a concert.

If a hot girl asks you to go anywhere but a crackhouse or a ritual sacrifice, you say, "YES!"

I'll see a lot of bands live that I'd never listen to on CD or radio. There's something about live music that makes me overcome my dislike for a genre or style, as long as it's done reasonably well. I'd probably even like a good rapper live. . .no, wait, I think I've gone too far there. 🙂

That said, I've long disliked Dave Matthews. I think it stems from one of his earliest hits, "Ants Marching." I can't get past the idea that his singing on that sounds like Cameron from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" at the Cubs game saying, "BattaBattaBatta, Suh-WING BATTA!!"

Funny thing is, I just went to Youtube and played a live version of "Ants Marching", and I have to admit, I'd probably even enjoy THAT live.
