65th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Attack Today

Today is Pearl Harbor day and is the 65th anniversary of that attack. Survivors are gathering for a final reunion as they don't expect that too many will be able to make the 70th reunion given that they are all in their 80's and 90's now.

My grandfather was there 3 weeks after it happened for clean up detail. He was a Sea Bee.

There aren't too many of them left that's for sure. I was in traffic the other day behind a man that had a WWII Veteran plate on his car. When I see things like that it always makes me take a moment to be thankful for what I have that all these brave men and women have provided for me. Things could be whole lot different.

No kidding? One of my Grandfathers was a SeeBee in the Pacific during WWII as well. That's about all I know about it though.

Man SeeBee are the nuts. They tried to get me to sign up to be a SeeBee in college. For those fo you who dont know, the SeeBees are the ones who run out onto the runway that was just bombed and start repairing it.

Yeah they have those.. but then again you gotta love the Marine version, the ones that go into the combat zone before anything is secure to setup the intial base, the SeaBees come in after that. Any force with any airfield has a group that runs out to do rapid runway repair, the calculations are fun and the HE drivers are just as crazy to get all that fill in there. Though when you don't have the HE its called Private Up manpower.

Back in WWII, the SeeBee's were there with the Marines. ;-)

He use to talk about running a bulldozer on Okinawa as snipers took pot shots at them. Crazy stuff.

Of course they were, we had to show them what was going on.. hah. Seebees are good people though, still got a good bit of moto in them.

A friend of mines uncle was one of the 5 drivers for Gen. Patton during the war. We have been trying to get a camcorder to record some of his stories before he dies. Would be a waist to not hear some of those. 😉

Man my hats off to to the military. I could not imaging doing what those brave guys did, back then and now.

Anyone that starts getting down on our military is simply an idiot. You may not like the policies of the commander in chief, fine, but leave the soldiers out of it.
