A solution to our budget crisis

Interesting article about how letting Congress and the President do what they do best could result in solving our current government budgetary "crisis". As stated in the article, it might not be popular, but as we seem not to be able to get anything done, it may be our best chance.

Whether it would work or not, it was good to read something that didn't say that "it's the end of the world" if we don't do a particular fix that someone supports.

Wow, that was quite interesting.

I think this is a huge flaw in our system of government. All Congress passes are long term budgets, but they are always changing course, so those long term projections never come true. Maybe it's time for Congress to close shop for 4-6 years and stop making new laws.

The one part I thought needed to be said in that article is while it will address the deficits, it does little to address the Trillions in debt. Sure, eventually the Suprlus will allow us to start chipping away at the debt, but that small surplus isn't enough to tackle the huge debt we have.

True, it doesn't talk about debt but it is a starting point.

I think that given the current attitudes of most everyone in Washington, it wouldn't be a bad idea at all for them to just stop everything that they are trying to do and take an extended vacation 😀

I heard something recently that basically said that you used to get known in Washington for working with the other party, making compromises and passing important legislation. Now you gain power and influence in the parties by fighting against the "evil" of the other side and not so much by great legislation that you offer, but by how you torpedo other ideas. It's a sad breakdown of the system for sure.

I'm quite disappointed with the whole lot of them. Both sides shill for corporations and do little to represent the people. I don't know how we fix this, but I worry what it will be like in 20-40 years.

I'm wit cha Atomm. I think there are a few decent ones, but as a whole, very few decent legislators.

I like your attitude - Sarge. I do especially so as it has nothing to do with mainstream.

The majority of people are like myself - I have to admit - very easy to influence. Even half digested articles ... only partly read stay somewhere in my memory dumbster and .. parts get picked out of it whenever the situation - a political dispute - e.g.

Where I live we have a well - I wouldn't call it Newspaper, but .... I don't know how many million (they sell 2.9 every day in a country of 84 to 85 million habitants - a recent statistic is not available due to a new "Volkszaehlung" 2011) of people every morning do exactly that and buy it - The "Bildzeitung".

Its nothing you can actually read. You rather watch it. Dead photos.
But ... something is kept in memory.

I wouldn't even try and give it a name.

I mean .. its obvious that the worst news in a funny or grotesque way made up - are news that will have a good chance to stay a while in your - our memory, but ... REALITY not always but mostly is a lot more complex. And WHO has the time to read through all that stuff that is out there..??? YOU! Sarge mostly have super good articles. And they transport reality.

We have those kind of newspapers here as well and sometimes the imagination of the writers is truly amazing. Unfortunately, too many people take it as the truth. What is worse is that there are a lot of newspapers/websites/TV news, and others that say and print things that sound like they are true but are not.

Tank you - Sarge! I certainly did have a hard time on that stupid last campaign valve added.
All four of us did 😛. But yeh - we tied it on expert. My bad...

I know you guys overseas have that woost of media and in my eyes its just as bad or worse as our woost here. What is good to know is that there are still some ppl with enough brains that also show us what good journalism is about. Anyways its not about how to "design opinions" but to provide info. And that at some point needs to go into detail. So the reader or viewer needs to "invest" a bit of their precious free time.

I found a good tv and info program, but I tried to watch it in Spain and it was not possible. Horrible.
I will paste the link, but I don't expect you to be able to watch a vid here. Its a french/german co program. Very professionally done. Really close to the viewer and different. Politically its rather left. The nature docs are my favorites especially the ones about Green Power and Greenpeace.
