    ALWAYS trust your instincts!

Going to work I go across a 3 lane bridge.

So I was heading inbound today around 8:10am.
During rush hour, up to 9am, the center lane is also marked for traffic going inbound along with the normal right lane. (Normally the center lane is outbound or coming toward you after 9am.)

Anyway this morning was extremely foggy. Visibility was maybe 100 feet at best. So I was heading across this bridge and had the center lane marked going my direction. I usually take that center lane if I am there before 9am as I make a left at the other end of the bridge.

Something told me to stay in the right lane today. Man I am glad I did!

Even though the center lane was marked inbound (my direction) about half way across the bridge a car FLEW by me in that center lane going the opposite way. I did not even see them until it would have been too late.

If I stayed in that center lane, like I normally do every morning, that would have been a head on crash.
No one goes the 25MPH speed limit across this bridge, more like 45+. You would think they would have slowed down with so little visibility. I know I did. With me going maybe 25 to 30 and him going say 40 that would have been at least a 70 MPH crash.

Good move, staying right. Gotta remember that myself in poor visibility. . .I never trust those multi-direction-depending-on-the-time-of-day lanes anyway. Glad you chose wisely. 🙂

Hah, my instincts are always hit the fast lane and zoom zoom zoom 🙂 .. and yah, I've had a lot of near misses. Last week I almost ate someone bumper that slammed on their brakes at a stoplite going 40mph. I swerved out into the left lane to pass him, then the jerkoff floored it trying to cut me off.

    You choose wisely grasshopper. 🙂

Glad you didn't get hit paladin. I was at a Rescue last night where we had to cut both drivers out of a head on collision. I gotta say it was one of the messier ones of my career.
