Any Stargate fans out there?

I recently watched Stargate Ark of Truth and Stargate Contiuum. I liked both movies, but for different reasons.

If you watched Stargate SG1, then you may have felt like me that the ending was good, but not great. Stargate Ark of Truth completes the picture and brings closure to the long story arc and final season. It wasn't my favorite Stargate, but it was worth seeing.

Stargate Contiuum on the other hand was a great story. I won't tell you any details, but the twists and turns really had me wondering what was going to happen. This isn't so much a contiuation of the series, but a great stand alone story that benefited from a movie budget instead of a television episode budget.

Anyone else seen either of these?

I've seen 'em both, and pretty much feel exactly as you do. Sadly, that means I have nothing more to contribute. Good commentary, though. 👍

That's ok. Now I can talk in code....

How shocked were you when they killed General O'Neil?

Do you WATCH the show? 😛 Nothing shocks me until the credits roll and they haven't gone back in time to stop it from happening, or something to that effect. I love the show, and SG: Atlantis as well, but nothing is exempt from the Reset Button. Heck, ppl have been dead for a SEASON and they come back. Similarly, I have never worried that Pickard or Riker would die on an away mission. 😀

I DID like the "Continuum" movie quite a bit. I wasn't as wild about the "Ark" movie, but like you said, it wrapped up the story arc fairly well.

I'm a HUGE SG franchise fan.
Have seen Ark but not yet bought Continuum so I won't read your code.

I also watch Atlantis - not great but quite good and it keeps the SG fix alive.

They are in the process of filming (for the 2009 season) a new Star Gate called Universe.

    http://stargate.mgm.com/universe/

Stargate Universe "maintains the spirit of Stargate, but opens up a whole new 'universe'."
It is "a completely separate, third entity" – as opposed to Stargate Atlantis, which was created as a spin-off from the first series Stargate SG-1.

Like the first two series in the franchise, Stargate Universe will take place during the present time, not in the distant future. The show will be "set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment" to seed the galaxies with Stargates millions of years ago but that was prematurely ended by the Ancients' ascension.

After placing Stargates throughout multiple galaxies, a second ship would follow up and explore. When a team of explorers from Earth find an Ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny and are unable to return to Earth, the crew must fend for themselves aboard the ship as it takes them to the far reaches of the universe.

The basis of Stargate Universe is that the ninth and final chevron, the purpose of which was previously unknown, would serve to get to the first ship. The show will involve more space-based action than SG-1 or Atlantis.

Sounds kind of like Star Trek Voyager, but the ship is autonomous instead of piloted.

Yea, I thought it sounded just like Voyager. Kind of unoriginal if you ask me.

I really like SG Atlantis. Unfortunately, it's only slated for 5 seasons. That's why they are creating a new show. This is season 4, so one more year and it's over as well. They are already announcing the movie after the series, but it's still somewhat disappointing.

This might be a good place to remind everyone that Amanda Tapping's new series on Sci-Fi , called "Sanctuary", starts October 3rd.

Unfortunately she's typecast in to the SG universe - now they have he as a brunet with a British accent in Sanctuary - to be determined.

Yea, the black hair really threw me.

She's got to be the luckiest of the group. Amanda, we're canceling your show. Want to be on Stargate Atlantis? BTW, want to do some Stargate Movies while your at it? Bad news, we're pulling you off of Stargate Atlantis. BTW, want your own show?

wow. Sounds like an awesome career to me......

OR... She has dirt on studio execs
OR....She has married to a studio exec
    OR....She's good on her back

Probably just lucky and has a HUGE fan base doesn't hurt.

Tapping is like Jewel Statie who plays the doctor in Atlantis - she will ALWAYS be Kaywinnit Lee 'Kaylee' Frye from the series / movie Firefly - Serenity to me...

It's just wrong to see her as the doctor and not the mechanic and Robert Picardo the Doctor from Start Trek Voyager the new Atlantis boss......

    Some times my head hurts....

The fact that you know the FULL first name of Jewel's character from Firefly puts this thread in danger of being moved to the GEEK section. Well done, sir! I love Firefly and Serenity. If I could have the power to resurrect ONE series, Firefly would be it. I saw every episode that as they were broadcast (no tivo), have the series and film on DVD, and have watched them all many times. . .but I bow before your superior geekhood. Your kung-fu is very strong.

Robert Picardo pops up a lot of places prior to Voyager, but I never noticed him before then.
I saw him in a rebroadcast of "The Howling" a little while back. He was the guy who wanted to give someone "a piece of his mind", so he stuck his fingers in his head and pulled out a chunk of brain. A memorable part, but I didn't realize it was him until I saw it again.

    A minute and a half-to-two minutes in.
