Princeton Study on the Deibold Machine wrote:This paper presents a fully independent security study of a Diebold AccuVote-TS voting machine, including its hardware and software. We obtained the machine from a private party. Analysis of the machine, in light of real election procedures, shows that it is vulnerable to extremely serious attacks. For example, an attacker who gets physical access to a machine or its removable memory card for as little as one minute could install malicious code; malicious code on a machine could steal votes undetectably, modifying all records, logs, and counters to be consistent with the fraudulent vote count it creates. An attacker could also create malicious code that spreads automatically and silently from machine to machine during normal election activities — a voting-machine virus. We have constructed working demonstrations of these attacks in our lab.

    😱

This is something I've heard about before but this is the first study by published as far as I know that documents the problems with these machines.

I voted electronically the last time I voted. (local something) It was the first time they had the machines, however they looked nothing like that one. I guess I'll stick to the old paper method. Where the other machines can miscount them!

We still have paper with the metal marker that you run the paper thru the machine and it reads the metal maker selections in the "you fill in this box" type paper selector.

But DAMN it boils down to if it's got a "brain" it can be hackled.

My entire voting life, Since Regan's second election (I vote in most elections), we always had big ass machines with levers. They are cool.

I hear we are going to this new system it SUCKS!!

I am not happy at all about it if it is true.

Screw the system. Let's just do a phone in and text message vote like they do on American Idol. Seems to work just as well. :-)

This article states that the Deibold machines can be opened with a key that is commonly used to lock up office file cabinets and hotel minibars. Not exactly highly secure by any measure.

Well, I don't think things are as bad as we think. I mean, the Democrats got elected this time and we all know it's the Republicans that control big business. 😛
