I was trying to tempt previous members to come back and visit..... It works from time to time, but they usually come by, say hey, I got an email, then they go back to their cave of obscurity.....

That's usually how it's worked in my experience as well. It's a lot of effort for very little return. Crafting personal emails/PMs to members while making it NOT sound like spam is time-consuming.
I spent several hours contacting former/AWOL members for the -=NC=- reunion. While most didn't respond, the good part about it is now I have a better idea of who to remove from the active roster, and who to remove from my contact list.

Hey Varg, great to see you again! Hope the holidays were good to you, and the new year treats you well. Also hope you can find the time to keep visiting the forum, even if you don't have the time to get in-game. Ppl who can form a complete sentence, and who have something worth saying, are hard to find on the World Wide Informational Intertubez. . . at least ones who will hang out with the likes of us 🙂
I did get DDO when it first came out but I was unlucky at the time because GRB and others I knew did not play it. I went online a few times got confused and deleted it. I am currently in EVE Online and at times I jump into a TF2 server for stress relief. I have not forgotten this crazy mixed up lot of misfits ( luv-u-2 ).
I will try and be around. When you see me on X-fire give me a kick and I might be able to join in. 😉
