Gas prices will be above $5.00 before then the way things are going. With oil at $100 a barrel I've seen the price of gas go up 15-20 cents in just a few days.
I've listened to those guys on and off for 20 years and would definitely trust their opinion. The US automakers have to adjust to this century and the resource constraints that we have. Most of the US automakers have taken a big hit in sales this year especially on trucks and SUVs directly due to the high cost of gas. Eliminate that price differential by bringing the MPG of those vehicles up and people will buy them again. I would love to have an SUV to haul my brood around, but I can get the same people capacity and at least 15 mpg better by driving my Toyota minivan. Put them on par and I quite possibly make a different choice.
