Comics Enter The Scilicon Age

The day I have been waiting for is finally here.... Not only can I relive my early years, but I can finally read stories I only dreamed of owning.....

Marvel is putting some of its older comics online Tuesday, hoping to reintroduce young people to the X-Men and Fantastic Four by showcasing the original issues in which such characters appeared.

Pricing will be $9.99 for a month or $4.99 a month with a year commitment. New issues will go online 6 months after release.


I am curious if anyone else would read more comics because of this or if they would switch from paper issues to electronic only?

Me, I haven't read any comics for nearly 15 years, but there have been several story arcs that have caught my attention. I hope they do this for all their issues.

I have to be honest. While I enjoy the occasional graphic novel I would rather read a normal book. Comics just skip too fast. I never did get "into" comics as much as many of my friends did. As a kid I read crap comics really. Archie, Richey Rich, Beetle Bailly etc... etc... I got more into the cartoon versions of spiderman etc...

If you're of a mind, and use torrents, there are some folks who scan in comics and share them, with a comic viewer available that's designed for this very purpose. I can see where it would be nice to have a permanent copy of a comic that I could look at all I want without causing wear and damage to my collectible book. I don't know that I like the subscription format given above, but I guess it would be great for hard-core collectors.

It's a dieing industry trying to survive. I'd be happy to support them if it meant I could read the new stuff online.
