Wow what a bummer. All I can say is it appears he died doing what he loved.....

I was listening to the news today and this is the freakiest thing ever. They were filming an animal planet documentary for the Worlds (or Ocean) Most Dangerous Animals. There had been bad weather, so they weren't diving.
Steve decided he wanted to do some filming on the coral reef for a show he was doing for kids with his daughter. They were not looking for Stingrays. He simply swam over one and got hit in the chest.
Considering how docile these creatures are, it sounds like he startled this one while it was sleeping.
It's crazy. This guy has handled animals most of us wouldn't get within 10 Feet of and he dies from the sting of a docile animal that he wasn't even messing with. Sheesh.
There is one species of stingray in that area that are some of the most deadly animals on earth. Their venom is supposed to be extreamly painful. I don't knwo if that is what got him.
Sad, but you almost had to see it coming. Stinks it was in leisure time when he wasn't intentionally bothering them though
They said on the news the dangerous part is the barbs on the stinger. When they pull it out, it tears a nice hole.
If he got hit in the chest in water deeper than 10 Feet, I imagine his lungs collapsed when the stinger made the hole. The pressure had to fill his chest with water and it took them 2 minutes to bring him up.
It's a shame.
apparently the stingray twisted around what ever it does and it acidently hit him and went threw his heart so he died before the vemon even got threw his body
