Del Toro Off Hobbit

    What do you guys think of this? I was excited to hear he was doing the Hobbit since Jackson wouldn't do it. But after all the delays, he's moving on to something else. I don't blame him, but I can't imagine anyone who could treat it the way Jackson and Del Toro could.

    Guillermo del Torro was directing the movie adaptation of the Hobbit but now he is not. Peter Jackson (who directed the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and is heavily involved in this project) is now working with the creative team to find a replacement that will do for the Hobbit what he did for Lord of the Rings. Not sure why he isn't directing it himself however.

    Never good when someone walks off or stops - anything - and then a replacement is called in.
    Will be cool to watch movie - hopefully it's done as well and as long as LOTR - just would not be able to squeeze it in to a 1:40 min movie.

    They are actually making it into two movies. If what I read earlier is correct, it was due to delays. The movies have been in the works for 3-4 years now and aren't set to come out until 2012 and 2013 due to these delays. I think that the guy didn't want to commit to two more years of working on this full time and living in New Zealand. Myself, I can't imagine living in the same (beautiful) place and doing the same job for 6 entire years. That must really suck and I bet the pay was crappy too 🙄

    If you didn't do it the first time, those last two sentences should be ready with extreme sarcasm.

    Thanks for filling in for me Sarge.

    I've read all sorts of rumors on this. Apparently, MGM who owns the rights to this is 3.7 Billion Dollar in debt. I read Del Toro was worried that they wouldn't be able to finish and decided to move on. I also read he had other commitments in the pipeline and couldn't back out.

    Either way, I hope they still pull this off.
