Ummmm..... if I'm in a survival situation, how likely do you figure it will be that power is applied and city water is present?
Really - a watts type uprising / Katrina is happening and your making toast in the GE washer?
Probably a better site is how to cook on your vehicles engine wile your getting you and your family the hell outta' Dodge to a safer location.
http://www.wikihow.com/Cook-Food-on-Your-Car%27s-EngineWe use to engine cook all the time in the Army - another trick if you have wall power (unlikely in "survival") you can electrocute food. Take a lamp cord strip wires off, (I wrapped bare wire ends on to CLEAN nails) jam in wires to hot dog (or what not) plug in lamp cord in to wall socket and heat cook by electrocution.
Works w other foods also.
http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/hotdogsAnother improvised method is a soda can stove.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverage-can_stoveThe soda can stove was another way we field cooked in the Army if we did not have a whipserlite stove available.
Another thing people do is use a dishwasher to clean your polymer pistol (Glock, Sig Sigma)
Although I would NOT recommended it... as you'd be introducing lead in to the device you clean your dishes with..... but people do it.
