I was trying some memory I bought from a guy at work. Since messing with it, my system won't post. I think my mobo is either overheated or it's toast. It was already kind of scary to turn my system off. So it's not entirely unexpected. Either way, I won't be able to play for a bit.
I was so going to load Windows 7 this weekend.... Now that's delayed too....

Do you even get to something being displayed on the screen? Do you even get into BIOS? Did you put your old memory back in to test?
Sounds like you also leave your computer on 24/7. I still recommend that as all my PC's at work run this way and have for YEARS...
This has been an argument for years but I feel that turning the machine on and off all the time adds thermal expansion/constriction to the parts and over time makes them weak.
Who really knows.. Maybe I need to Email mythbusters.. 🙂
Yea, I really think it's the Mobo. I pulled the memory, but left the CPU in. From my experience, the system should still post when you do that to allow access to the BIOS. No Go though....
I'm going to mess with it some more this evening. I'll try moving the memory around or moving it to different slots. I don't expect it to work after my BIOS Post test, but heck, at this point, anything is worth a shot.
I've priced out an I5 upgrade for $400. However, it's coming from my side business fund and I really need to hold on to as much as I can for taxes at the end of the year.
Since I'm about to load a new OS, I would really like to do the new equipment at the same time, but the whole tax funds thing has me a bit razzled.
The biggest issue is we are saving for a down payment on a house and since they renewed the $8000 tax break, I need to avoid spending as much as possible so we can meet our goal of applying for a loan in March. Free tax money, whether you agree with it or not, is a sweet incentive...... :-)
