Election night in America

Is about like watching the Steeler games the last few weeks. Clicking down from +15 and +6. The pendulum is swinging to the left again. Shumer and Reed are getting giddy. Maybe they will sneak off and bop each other, hehe.

My biggest concern is tax cuts will expire next year. This means $2k more to pay for a 50k family. Next concern is impeachment of Prez Bush. While that will get nowhere, it will waste millions and allow democrats to parode nightly on the news to campaign for 08'.

Iraq? Well hell, whats the solution. Quit funding the war? I see nothing but gridlock there until it breaks the troops morale. I guess most people that voted against the war tonight had no idea our own revolution lasted 13 years and cost thousands of lives until the constitution was written.

To our credit however, we do not kill each other over a simple balance of power.

I don't think that if the Dems win they will waste time impeaching Bush. As much as I disagree with the man, it would simply be a waste of time and money. Just like when they did it to Clinton.

I hope whomever wins takes this lesson to heart. Rhetoric and politicizing everything benefits no one and makes the American people unhappy. When we are unhappy we look for elected officials to blame and take them down a notch - no matter which party is in charge.

What needs to happen, and I have severe doubts that it will, is that all those elected step back from the politics and start recognizing that those of us that have to work for a living are in trouble, and not just a little bit. Our wages our being undercut severely by health care and energy costs, and our civil liberties slowly eroded by things as widespread as the DMCA and the war on terror.

I'm hoping that in each state, someone is listening to the people tonight and can take charge.

I'm worried about the Dem's taking charge. Raising minimum wage does nothing but make costs raise across the board, taking more money out of everyone's pocket. Oh yea and it actually increases the amount of money the government gets in the form of taxes. What good will it do for them to get more money while they continue to waste what we give them now.

The economy is doing fairly well, but mess with it too much and things could go the other way. I don't want to see that happen.

The economy is in reasonable shape and things go better if it is left alone for the most part - I think a lot of people would agree to that point republican or not. Where the government needs to step in is to come up with a true energy policy that weans us from such dependence on foreign oil and come up with a health care solution that at the very least checks the double digit inflation in costs that we are seeing in that area.

See, that is where we disagree. While I think those things need to be done, the Democrat's answer has always been raise taxes. The healthcare problem is not going to be fixed by raising taxes. It's going to be fixed by dealing with the Illegal Immigrant's getting Free health care.

My wife told me about a conversation that went on the other day at a meeting in her hospital. The head of Labor and Delivery has been under tremendous pressure to get his costs under control. However, if more than 30% of the babies born that day are from Illegal Immigrant families, they don't see a dime. Guess what, it's been running as high as 60% day to day.

Could you imagine trying to run a business where a large percentage of your clients can't pay, can't be traced or even sent to collections because they live in a viel of secrecy?

Even more, could you imagine what would happen if one of us tried to stiff the hospital? I know the hell I've went through over $200 discrepency that my insurance should have paid but did not.

I will say that there seriously needs to be something done about healthcare though. It's getting way out of hand. My insurance is only good for one thing: it gets you in the door... After that it doesn't pay a damn dime, or it doesn't seem to anyway. This is the price I pay for working for a small company. We have the best plan they offer for a company the size of mine, but it's absolutely worthless.

But, however, I did go and vote today. So, my right to bitch is secure. 😀

I doubt Pelosi can hold back the ranks of moveon.org supporters. If there is no impeachment, there will be plenty of huff and puff about it. Raising minimun wage has never worked. Its always caused instant inflation by sending all wages up across the board. By the time the air clears, it will inflate fuel and goods.

Elections swing back and forth, but none of the winners or losers will really re-examine thier morals. Its about power and getting even. The house will tip by favor of moderates, but the liberal power base will control them via San Franciso values.

I don't agree that the dems solution is always to raise taxes. That is a misperception because usually the increases always follow decreases in taxes that occurred whether we could afford to do so or not and since no one seems to curb spending significantly they have to be increased. This creates a cycle where (at least the last 20+ years) taxes are lowered, the deficit gets huge, tax breaks are reversed, we come out of debt, tax breaks are given, deficit goes back up.

The healthcare issue is bigger than illegals getting free care. I would hazard a guess that that is not a big issue in the vast majority of the US outside of the southwest and the major metro areas. I could be wrong, I don't really know about it. I don't know what the answer is, I just know it isn't working the way things are now.

Which is why the 300M person was slated to be an illegal immigrant born in LA. there really needs to be a better solution, perhaps give the bill for all the illegals health care to whichever country they lay citizenship to, otherwise they go in the back and wash the dishes... I accept the workers who will pay for their way, those that come with legality, hell even the illegals that are working for wages to support their families. At the very least these people have a bit of work ethic in them as well as keep a few jobs in America even if the taxes are not going to America as they are lost under the tables.. Its the companies that hire with full knowledge of illegality, the government officials that look the other way, hell even the DOT that gives these punks Drivers Licenses... a couple of hard laws need to come back down the pipes to take care of those who will take advantage of any and every situation... almost reminds me of the fivolous lawsuits about hot coffee. the system gave the right so it was taken to a point that any self respecting individual would not go. Now we have persons who see the opportunity to come over and work but after working a short time see the better opportunity to drain from a society they do not belong to, or even on ethat they want to belong too... bah I digress..

Bear in mind it's never a good economy when you are borrowing money. No financial person will tell you that you are in good fiscal shape if you have 30k in credit card debt. The US debt is way out of control, we keep passing the problem, well eventually it will catch up, I hope I am not around when it does. I somehow suspect I will be though.

I think Sarge is right about politicians needing to remember why they are there, and it's not about their perks. I agree raising the minimum wage won't help much at all and that impeachment is a waste of time. Raising the minimum wage can be avoided by fixing the problems unlying, those being Healthcare costs, and allowing companies to not supply healthcare for their people that do work fulltime (I am looking at walmart here).

I will be happy to see the government having to answer to it's critics. It's been too long where our government was not accountable to anyone, and I think we may finally see that change. The people have voted not about parties or even too much about issues, this election was about people being fed up with the same bullshit.

I know a lot of people want to see a balanced budget, but it will never happen and to try to bring in even more money to balance it would hurt the economy more than you know.

In college, it was explained to me by my Financial Analysis professor that the defecit is actually a good thing. I probably won't do this justice, but the bottom line is the budget deficit is actually paid for through government issued bonds and those bonds are what makes our money worth while. In the old days, it was back by gold. Today, it is backed by debt and by the governments ability to repay that money. If they did not repay or if they did not have the debt, then it would destabilize the US Dollar.

He was much more eloquent in his explanation, but I bought into the idea.
