This is an awesome idea. You turn it upside down, the weights move to the top, gravity pulls it down over the course of 4 hours and it generates the equivilant of a 40 watt lightbulb. All free of electricity.

    Wow...... Such a simple idea......

That thing looks like it weighs 300lbs [US as we know things weigh less in EURO]

I saw something about that earlier. The cool thing is that it uses tech that has been powering grandfather clocks for a long time in a slightly different way.

Cool idea, but man, these artsy types are so loopy.

Gravia is also metaphor for an understanding of social activism. The mechanism of social activism is like a flywheel, where each participant in society is not necessarily required to provide all of the energy to power a movement, but instead, contributes with others, bits at a time to accomplish positive change

Uh, yeah, your lamp is exactly like social activism. You obviously spend way too much time thinking about things that really don't need thinking about.

Watch out! The US may try to convert this lamp to a democracy!

Would take forever to get the lamp to turn on as it would take a majority vote and people would try to sneak bad things into it that end up getting it turned down... You would hardly ever have light!

I am not sure what the political analog would be to a capacitor, which stored the energy from the last fall to power the light through the current fall.

Is that sort of like a rerun on tv?

    no capacitors are useful.
    ;-)
