Check out the link in my sig to feel the pain of a Pittsburgh Pirate fan, and check out my new Avatar, "Fudgey the Whale". . .AKA #79 on the list.

I have the baseball card pictured at #63. I had a little chat with Harvey Haddix one time, and got him to sign that very card, and a baseball, which I've kept through several moves totaling over 1,200 miles. He was a genuinely nice guy. . .nicknamed "the Kitten" (Sindy might appreciate that 🙂 )

Note that #63 has a typo. It should say, "Only a Pirate could throw 12 perfect innings against a lineup featuring Hank Aaron and Eddie Mathews, AND LOSE". That really happened, as the card commemorates.

    God hates the Pirates.

Man that is a nice shot of our new Ball park. It really is a nice park.

Not that I follow baseball like you do, but this year we may be a bit better. We did get some new players and it seems there is a new attitude this year. We will see I guess..

I am still basically a die hard Steelers fan though I like the Pirates and we have a good hockey team this year again. The pens are doing well.

I was going to say that, but how do you explain the Steelers?

Didn't our baseball team leave Pgh several decades ago??

    😀

you mean the steelers who win a rigged superbowl and prove it by not even making the play offs the next season?

Dude, even _I_ will tell you that was a crappy Super Bowl. No one was going to win, it was just a matter of who wanted to give away the game more. Everyone LIKES to see two teams kick ass, give it their all, and have one just barely come out on top, but that didn't happen. I was happy we won, but the game itself took a bit of the joy out of it.

You want proof that the team was worthy of a Super Bowl? Look at the season before the Super Bowl victory: 15-1. THAT'S the year we should've taken it. The Steelers were on the ass-end of so many shitty calls the past 10 years, I contend that if there were to be a fix, it would've been against the Steelers.

LAST season, our star QB went thru more shit than a drummer for Spinal Tap: A near-fatal motorcycle accident (sans helmet), an emergency appendectomy, a concussion. . .the only things missing were spontaneous human combustion and choking to death on someone else's vomit.

BTW, have I told you what a TROLL you are lately? 😛

I feel your pain Doc. I'm a life-long Sox fan. While we've had lots to be happy about in recent years, there was a bit of a dryspell there for a while.

This year is looking good for the Sox though as they've become more Yankee-like in the offseason (with their spending anyhow). I try not to get too invested early in the season however as it's too long and trying on my heart to be excited from opening day on. If they are still in it after the all-star break then I'll start to get excited. 😀

There are 3 narrow windows of excitement for a Pirates fan.

    1. Spring training, which is about the only point in the year when we haven't been mathematically eliminated.

    2. The period between the All-Star break and July 31st, when everyone knows we aren't going anywhere, so we try to trade off our best players in order to save on payroll and improve for the future. We usually have a good pitcher to trade off, but we haven't got anything back that actually improves the team this way since 1991.

    3. The off-season. Have they finally had enough of this manager? Does the front-office know that WE know it's not all on the manager, and finally fire that pretender of a GM? Can we trade to get something that will break us out of a 14-year losing streak? We traded our closer to Atlanta this off-season for lefty 1st-baseman Adam Laroche. He was apprehensive about joining the Pirates, but changed his mind after seeing how many ppl were excited to have him. We greeted him like he was Babe freakin' Ruth. The pain. . .

The Sox SHOULD be spending more, as they're in a good market. If the fans are supporting the team, and making the owners money, they owe it to the fans.

Since I'm from a National League city, I'm not much of an American League fan. I'm fond of making the pitcher hit, and the interesting substitutions and roster management that goes on in the late innings of a close game. Hope the Sox give the Yanks and Boston a good fight this year, though. Somebody has to.

HEHEHEE! Serendipity strikes again. The X-Files just came on Sci-Fi as I'm writing this, and what episode is it?

A pretty good episode. Going strictly by this episode,I get the idea Chris Carter is a big baseball fan. Well done.

Megaron didn't we do this before man 😉
    I posted the stats before.

    So 😛

The first half of the SB was not as good as I would have liked it to be, I admit that. The second half was a quite good actually. For me at least.

You know man that hurts. Sure we established you HATE my city and our sports teams. Fine, what the hell we ever did to you I don't know, but to say the Super Bowel was fixed???? COME ON!! 😉

I am not one to spout crap. If we had bad games, we had bad games. If we sucked in a game, we sucked! I will be the first to admit it.

You simply could never understand what it is like to be a Steelers fan. We will bitch and yell if we suck.
See Steelers fans are the most traveled in the country. Every game we play in away from home, we still have TONS of fans there.

There are Steelers bars and fans all over the world! NO other US football team can say as much! How many Eagles fans are there in England comparatively?? http://www.pittsburghsteelers.co.uk/

If the Eagles were in the SB instead of the Steelers and everything went the exact same way you would NEVER say it was fixed! That is being hurtful just for the sake of it man. I would never have said that about your team. If we could not make it in the SB, I would have liked to see the Eagle do it.

As Doc said man, our QB had a very bad year and we lost some players after the SB that were a huge part of the team. We will build again. And just for the record we lost two games by very little that made all the difference. We would have made the playoffs if it was not for that. Bad calls? Bad luck? In sports that stuff just happens man.

Who pissed in your Wheaties anyway? You pissed that the Eagles have never won anything? Jealously? Seriously be honest, what is it??? If you have crap to say about the Steelers BACK IT UP!! Our record blows you guys away,

So talk the talk man but we have walked the walk.
The stats tell it like it is.

5 Super Bowls to ZERO! TASTE IT!!! 😉

On the good news front, the Penguins are staying put. I have been a Penguins fan for a long long time, glad they are finding some success and maybe a more permanent home!

Are you just eggin us on or what? Bah, last years SB was the worst I've seen in recent history. I also thought Philly won it at least once? I know they have been there a time or two.

Just because the politicans promote division between east and western PA, doesn't mean the fans have to be nasty about it. Usually whatever the Eagles is up to never makes the press here because thier simply in the other division. There is certainly no rivary, as we only play NFC teams like 4 games a year now.

Strange thing is tho, no matter where I've lived, the Steelers were always popular. I lived in Denver, Seattle, and WV, and always found a lot of fans. I'd say I was from PA, and they would say 'how bout those Steelers', never anything about Philly.

As far as the Pirates go, I don't think I ever saw them win a game in person. I'd go only 2 or 3x's a year depending on which friends would visit me in Pgh, but they always frillen lost. Bonds would just stand out there and scratch his balls and I'd jag my buddy he just made 1k for that 🙂

Pirates certainly were not worth the damn extra cost of 1% sales tax for thet new stadium they weazeled out of the taxpayers. 😡

I disagree that the SB was THAT bad. Hey it is my opinion. Could it have been better, yes but it was not THAT bad though. 😉

Also just FYI I have nothing against The Eagles at all.
But only because you asked: 😉

For the record: Both teams have 74 seasons as of now.

    Super Bowl Championships:
    Steelers: 5
    Eagles: 0

    Super Bowl Appearances:
    Steelers: 6
    Eagles: 2

    Division Champions:
    Steelers: 17
    Eagles: 11

    Playoff Appearances:
    Steelers: 23
    Eagles: 20

    Hall of Famers:
    Steelers: 22
    Eagles: 16

You must be a big Pens fan. . .I didn't even know about it until you posted this! Of course, I'm not living in Pgh now. If I was, I probably couldn't turn on a TV, or radio, or bump into a co-worker without hearing this. GREAT news. Pgh has had a bit of a rough time since the decline of the steel industry locally. I read somewhere Pgh's had a 50% decline in population since 1950. I never knew it was that bad. I guess you just take your environment as normal, if that's what you grow up with. Everyone freaks out when a sports team threatens to move. It's seen as one more nail in the coffin. . .hopefully the new arena will bring in some more shows as well.

As a Pens fan, you should be enjoying some good hockey for the next few years. We lucked (and played ourselves) into some great draft picks, and stole Malkin away from Russia. . .the Pens have no excuses not to do well.

I'm happy we won, but it wasn't a great game, IMHO.

Bah stats for 30 years ago mean nothing =p. That superbowl was totally rigged. But again you know nothing about what it's like to be a Philly fan. We are mean spirited by nature. Every season our team comes so close only to dissapoint. Donovan screws up a superbowl, the phillies drop a world series..the flyers go from a great team to the bottom of the freaking barrel. So naturally after years, and to date its been 27 years of soul crushing dissapointment, I lash out against the other Pennsylvania team. You should see me rant and rave about the New Jersey Devils.

Oh and like 80% of my family is from the Steelers region. So I get to listen to thier crap all the time. So blame my mother for my hateful remarks.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH So it is just jealousy after all. I can understand that then 😉

This is just creepy. Bubba saying the word "we", liking something I do..... 😉

Sorry Doc I would have told you about the Pens but you usually are on top of everything on your own.
It is that no life thing I guess 😉

Yes they are building a new Arena and the Pens will get a 30 year lease on it. They should be in it for the 09 season.
I am personally unsure the best place to build it is across the street there but what do I know. I used to work right across the street from the arena for 5.5 years. It was cool when we won the Stanly cups though! 😉

I will miss that building though. ;(
