Firefox 2.0 Is out

    Heard lots about the new IE being released, but hadn't heard a thing about the latest Firefox release until today.

    Yeah, they had it out for DL last ngiht withou the announcement. but their servers were getting thrashed. I'll waitt ill the weekend to give it a try. Let the big DL wave subside.

    Sorry to be different but I never was a FireFox fan. I have to keep them up to date and use/install them at work but I LOVE Avant browser. it uses IE for the engine but it a GREAT addition on top.
    FF is okay but a lot of sites use ASP or other things that you need IE anyway. AB fixed all my complaints.

    I want to mention that you do want to upgrade your IE to 7 even if you do not use it as it adds new printing functionality that the other browsers use, well Avant does anyway. 🙂
    The new printing function is really cool. FINALLY after 15 years of me bitching someone FINALLY fixed printing so it shrinks the page to fit and won't cut off the sides anymore. MAN this is great! IE7 also has some nice built in functionality once you tweak it a bit. I do not like its default mode but once I turn the links bar back on and add the menus back in, it is not bad.

    Why does MS assume people want less and less information and menus?? Idiots!

    Finally! That problem has pissed me off for years. Now I can stop taking it out on my IT guy.

    From my understanding, which could be wrong, one thing really annoying about FF 2.0 is you have to TOTALLY un-install any previous versions. It has to be installed totally clean. None of the old plug ins will work with it either.

    This will make it really fun for people like me that have to install it on many many machines. <SIGH>

    I reinstalled over my old version without any issues so far. Of the half-dozen extensions that I had 4 had updates already and 2 did not. FireFTP and bbcodeXtra, the two most important had updates.

    I haven't updated at home, but I have essentially the same extensions there.

    Also liking the built-in spell checker!

    I installed over the old version. All of my extensions are working, even though only one required an update for 2.0.

    I didn't noticed the spell checker until you said something Sarge. That is an awesome feature.

    Other than that, the tabs are more web 2.0ish, but I'm happy.

    Very cool. Thanks for letting me know. I was not updating it for a few days to see what bugs come out etc....

    I am happy the fresh install rumor is not true, I did not actually try it yet. That will make it a lot easier for me. I wonder if it can update from its own update button. I have to try it I guess.

    I guess I will have to update that and IE within the next few weeks. What a pain 🙂

    I also just installed over the old version, it worked perfect as did all extensions. The Spelling is nice.

    You guys should DL a small program called iespell.
    http://www.iespell.com/
    It lets you check spelling on any web form. Just highlight your text and select spell. I use it all the time, it is great.

    Ummmm... IEspell? As in, not FFSpell?

    😛

    We had a spell plug in, but the new built in one is so much cooler. I don't even have to write click now. It underlines any words I mess up.

    FYI, Check Updates via the browser does not install FF 2.0.

    I grabbed iespell after seeing someone post it here a long time ago, its great at work where I have to use ie because Toyota's web site won't work in FF. FF2.0s spell check kicks ass also.


    I'm gonna have to try the Avant or something dealy at work.
