Gamer's Radio Then and Now

Please excuse my idle jabbering.....

I remember back before Feb of 2004 the events and goings on in gamers radio. I even remember the appearance of the site was just migrating to a newer appearance. I have helpded Atomm from time to time in this process before I even joined. It wasn't until months later that Atomm knew that I played BF42 that he invited me to join up. At that time I could not play online due to the lack of broadband in my area. I would go over to Atomm's house and in his computer room at the time would play FNF with him and another friend Racer. I remember how fun that was.

I also remember playing around with the editor for BF42 and again atomm gave direction and Gamers Radio had it's first custom map Ghostfront. Not bad for my first map. 🙂

Then we added another group to our GR Family, the 304 and gainged another awesome mapper LoU!

Time went on and BFV came out. Members hung around and started playing ladders and turnies. Other games came out and we lost half the group. Others joined and others left over the past few years but i see that GR is still holding strong.

Keep up the good work. I don't plan on leaving yet. I feel there is a new Explosion waiting to happen.

Interesting how far we have actually come. Back then, we didn't even have a station, now we have 2.

Lots of interesting stuff on the news section.

Interesting. Would have liked to have seen the graphics tho. Hard to believe the next best crop of us are going to be only at the one year mark next month. 06' just seemed to drag on forever 😉

I also liked the site that was there when we joined better. I think I liked the above best 😉

I really liked the custom bubbles with the graphics in them we used to have, it was different. To be honest I think the current site is very generic looking.

I totally understand you work VERY hard on the site Atomm and you honestly do a GREAT job man.

This is just my opinion on what looks better. Everyone is different man.

I actually like the site now. Looks more professional when gearing it to a commerical enterprise such as the radio stations. Cleaner is faster, and that last site was crowded and the loading of the webpage and forums was nuts. Nuke is too hard on resources and was dragging everything down.

Thats why I kept my new site minimal and didn't use an object oriented program like Nuke or SMT again. By just using frames or iframes, you can load most of any php content anyway without all that overhead. For the front page news, just used a wedge mod to import news from our phpBB news section to a frame on the webpage.

The banner is kinda plain compared to the last one, but in context, it looks good for a radio station. Last site looked all-game.

I'm finally getting some joomla experience and it seems pretty straight forward. I may have to muster up a retro theme sometime. I see some free time in the near future. Yea!

It's cool Paladin. I love the faded header look, but Lexx hit it on the head. It's cleaner and definitely faster. I miss some of the old stuff, but I'll work some of it in.

I like the site as it looks now, it's very smooth. 😀

QFT. I honestly can't remember what the previous iteration looked like, but while the gfx Raze posted looks good, it's also a cliche to have a one of those banners nowadays. Everyone and their brother has a faded, blended graphic with game characters or military hardware. At least our header is unique.

Was i living under a rock somewhere? When did Ultima V get reworked into 3-D .. damn... now I am going to have to find my DungeonSiege disks and see if I can get that mod to work...

I understand what you are saying but if it is done right, it looks good. Maybe that is the reason people use it. I have seen some that are overkill though.

I do think ours is nice but is bland really better? The logo we have is VERY cool, I just think it needs a new background.

Sometimes less is more. In this case the GRB logo and header are very, very nice. Modern and sleek. I wouldn't change a thing. 🙂

I dunno, I used a 3 panel setup that I really stripped down because I liked Atomm's template here. Side by side comparison with GRB vs UTVclan , well my banner just looks too busy. I also like less colors. I could design a logo, but did'nt want to copy too much 😉

Perhaps its just in the eyes of the beholder...
