Garbage Island

This is a staggering video about the problem of plastic never decaying. In other words every piece of plastic EVER made barring the few that were incinerated are still around and always will be. Now this plastic has started to become prevalent in the ocean. This talks of an area twice the size of Texas in the Pacific that the plastic to plankton ratio is 6:1.

Now I am sure Lexx will let me know how plastic is good for animals and the "liberal pussys" haven't embraced plastic as a food source, but I figure this is some good info. 😏

Interesting article... What it all tells me is that we are just creating out own pile of pooh and are eating it too.

Recycle I guess is the answer to help out with that... But then, I don't know of any place to recycle plastic around where I live... Only paper and metals...

Yeah I hadn't until the last 6 months every thought about the fact that plastic doesn't for the most part degrade, in otherwords all plastic ever made is still here and we keep making more. I always knew it was the case, just never thought about it. I believe the calculation is that there is 76lbs of plastic on earth for each person.

I cannot believe there isn't plastic recycling there, that's beyond my comprehension. Plastic recycling has been a fact of life since before I remember. It's just a fact of life here.

This is why we need the Plasma Generators to succeed. There are tons of waste that could be turned into fuel.

I didn't visit the link Bubba, but if it's the island of trash in the Pacific Ocean, I've seen it on TV. It's a terrible site. The trash pile is larger than the state of Texas.

I've read about this 'garbage island' a few times in the past year. I thought I'd posted about it before, but maybe not.

A long time ago, I read Jack London's, "The Sea Wolf". It was a great book, about a young, educated novice sailor butting heads against his cruel, nihilistic captain. In it, the captain said that life is cheap, that it spills out everywhere; and also that life is chaos, like a culture of 'yeast' that grows and eats itself. . .explaining the captains justification for being so cruel, and taking what he wants.

I found that comparison interesting, if not 100% accurate, but it led me to think further. 'Yeast', or bacteria, in a petri dish, spreads out, expands to the limits of the dish, consuming all resources, then ultimately dies in it's own waste. Humanity is capable of doing the same thing, if it doesn't restrict it's growth to a size that allows the planet time to reclaim our biodegradable waste, and replace what we use. . . except for things like oil, of course, which won't recover for millions of years.

The planet had 1 billion ppl in 1804, 2 billion in 1927, 4 billion in 1974. . .we're up to 6.7 billion now, we'll be at 8 billion in 2024. . .

I wouldn't call anyone a liberal pussy for complaining about plastics. I don't approve of any illegal dumping of anything...however, is it a real threat to life, no. For the most part its fairly non toxic, and many blends are totally recyclable.

Can the world do without plastic? I doubt it. Who has to pay to clean up the mess, the US and Europe? Again, why risk our economy worrying about it.

There have been several new plastics developed from food stocks. That nasty hard plastic they seem to shrink over everything nowadays is made from corn starch. Its supposed to decay in 30 years, more or less.

I used to work in a toy factory. Saw firsthand plastic pellets in one side, plastic molded toys out the other. Every time my mother bought my kids new toys I'd cringe inside. If products can be made out of something else, by all means think about the impact.

Recycling is pretty much bust in many citys now. The citys just can't make any money on the plastics and glass. They keep the cans and take the rest to the city dump. I've seen at least 3 news reports here in Pgh, yet no one admits fault.

Of all the things the alarmists cry about, this is probably the only one I care about. There is a jingle on a talk show I listen to, but when they came to plastic they sang more or less 'it may be ugly but it will just become a part of the earth.

Think about this. If there ever was life on mars, we'd of found a candy bar wrapper or an empty anti-freeze jug by now 🙂
