Don't remember where I heard of/saw Gmail for the first time but was wondering if anyone has heard of it?

You get a Gig of storage, yes a Gig, and it's free! At least for now.
From what I understand, they are testing it out, and the reasoning for the massive amount of storage is so that you don't have to delete email. They say the average person would have four years before they would need to delete any mail with this acct. This way you don't delete important emails. The only way to get an account right now is to be invited in. I was a chosen one! Anyone else have an acct.?

yeah, ephil and I both have one... I gave one to KoNeo... Just logged in and I show to have 6 invitations to be given out.... Anyone need one?

I don't knwo if they went through with it, but I know the original plan was that google would read the mail and target ads to you based on your emails content. Anyone know??

Well, there was a big stink over Gmail. They had an archive feature built into their TOS. Even if you deleted the email, they could retain it. I don't know if that is still the case, but a lot of people were throwing fits over that.

They show you google ad's based on the content of the message.

I had an email service I was running under my business, but when this came out, I gave up. There is no way I can compete with 1Gb of Diskspace and remain profitable. 🙁

Yeah Goose, see this wasn't a hidden thing as I recall it was part of the TOC, but I think they scrapped it last min when they heard Hotmail and Yahoo would be bumping up their services as well.

Hey, it is a great email address to have for web forms when you know you will get spammed on it...

I'm pretty sure all the major email corporations do that already for legal purposes. I think the requirement is 2 years, but you'll have to excuse me, i'm not in that line of work anymore. 🙂
