I read several articles about this. In most cases, they said he was a charismatic leader who brought direction and money to the table. Charisma and money seem to be the two things that bring evil people to power. With him gone, their will be others to step up, but that does not mean they will be able to pull off what he did.
I also read someone on the inside tipped off the US. The military believes that a lot of the Sunni's that were aligned with him, but not a part of his outfit were getting tired of him. It was even more interesting from a political standpoint. They appointed two cabinet members. The Sunni's were up in arms over all the Shiite appointments. The two announced yesterday were a Sunni and a Anti-Iranian Shiite.
Combining the two events, it is said it really looks like the Sunni's are starting to come around. The only problem now is getting the Shiite Death Squads to lay off.
Well Sarge, it won't change right away. . .but anyone who kidnaps people who have not done anything, and then summarily executes them in a most brutal manner. . .well, he needs to be dead, whether it changes anything or not. Let's hope it's a step towards the end of terrorism in Iraq.
I once told my Philosophy instructor that, to me, the value of a person's life is directly proportionate to the value he places on other's lives. I bring this up now because there are, thankfully, few ppl alive in my time that better illustrate what I mean.
Perhaps the next guy won't be as charasmatic, or bloodthirsty, or as well-connected in money circles. . .maybe the next guy will be less competent, or come to realize that working within the system is the best way to gain popular backing and realize their goals.
Ultimately, I believe it's up to the Iraqi ppl to claim their country and make it all that it is capable of becoming. All we can do is provide assistance and guidance, and it's probably better that way. What kind of national identity would the US have if the French had freed us from King George III and set up our government? (cue the wise-ass French jokes 😀 ) We got rid of Hussein, but they still have to fight. The fight, and sacrifice, makes it precious.
The good news is, anytime I hear anything from an Iraqi in the media, it's full of anger and venom for the terrorists. I hope that's the real view of the majority. If so, they'll do OK, eventually.
What was Zarqawi's death toll? I bet he's directly responsible for thousands of deaths. I'm glad that S.O.B. is dead. Couldn't happen to a bigger bastard.
Nothing, I just do not like googles way of indexing stuff and when people search on subjects we could come up. I just basically do not like to be listed like that.

Unless they did a search for something strange like Zarqawi animal sex. Of course, this is the first time I have mentioned animal sex, so it stands to reason we have a few hours before google indexes us and picks up on our strange association with animal sex.
