Heroes Premieres Tonight!

I may not be able to watch it tonight. Gotta see if the wife wants to see it. If so, it will be Thusday before I get to it.

Looks like they put it off a week.

At least I know I'm not crazy. I checked my Tivo last night to see what was next to be recorded and it said Heroes. Looks like the update came in late. Strange......

Oh well, what is one more week....

This time for real.....

SPOILERS FOR SEASON THREE SEASON OPENER


I'm of the opinion that the show is screwed. They screwed it from the beginning. Hiro's is way too powerful, so we're left saying all the time, "Why doesn't he just go back in time and. . ." It would've been better if he just had the power to stop time. Maybe throw in the teleportation with it. Hiro's overpowered, and the only way to really stop him is to make him do dumb things and make him forget how easily he could fix things.

Peter Petrelli is way overpowered. He acquires powers far too easily, and again, they have to make him stupid/incompetent to allow anyone to beat him. . .and that's what they do. I need a scorecard to keep track of what powers he has, and from the way he acts, he does too. They should've capped him at a couple powers, and if he learns a new one, he has to give up one he had.

Syler, at least, needs to kill people to take their power(well, it USUALLY kills them), which is a nice power balance. He has to kill super-powered people, which SHOULDN'T BE easy, and it lends a naturally evil aspect to him. A great villain. He's the best part of the show. They had a golden opportunity to scale him back when he had his powers reset, but it looks like they're charging full-tilt towards making him overpowered again. That could've been the whole SEASON, just Syler out there, not even on anyone's radar at first, going around looking to build his powers back up, while being underpowered himself. Now he's got ANOTHER file full of super-powered addresses to visit. (sigh) Someone needs to learn something about hiding critical info like that. Cryptology might be another thing to look into. . .you know, the sort of thing EVERY COMPUTER OWNER HAS EASY ACCESS TO? (double sigh)

The way everyone is overpowered on this show, they SHOULD make it like a live-action anime - people blasting, and getting blasted by heat rays, cold rays, fire, pianos getting tossed about, ppl swooping down and attacking out of the sky, teleporting in with their sword extended into the target, etc. Or else they should've dialed back the power a bit and made the show they're trying to make now. In a world of normal people, ONE power per person would've been way cool and powerful.

They should ALL be practicing their powers, it's just common sense. Hiro, at least, sits around and plays with time, and Claire keeps throwing herself off towers and in front of trains, though that's less practice now and more because she's kind of losing it. The first season finale, with the super-powered retard fight shows how much they need the practice.

They've ended TWO seasons now with the "death" of major characters, only to find them alive the next season. There's only BEEN two seasons. They better not go to that well again this year.

Now, let's talk about last night's Heroes 😀 Let's forget the rant above. I'll just judge the show for what it is.

I liked it. Syler got his regeneration power he wanted and didn't kill Claire to get it - didn't even try to. The question left hanging is: would he have tried to if he thought he could? And no conversation about Syler's scene with Claire would be complete without, "EAT it? That's DISGUSTING!" 😀

Nathan Petrelli has gone off the deep end, it looks like. If Linderman isn't really there, then how did Nathan heal? Did Claire's blood stay in him long enough to give him limited healing ability?

It looks like Nicci's back, or maybe it's Jessica, Nicci's dead twin, who didn't really die. . damn this show is getting convoluted. If they killed her, they really didn't need to bring her back.

For a smart guy, Suresh couldn't BE more stupid. The wall-climbing scene made me sing, " Suresh-man, Suresh-man, does whatever a Suresh can!" Looks like he's turning into Brundle-fly, though.

Future-Peter came back and SHOT Nathan? He couldn't have come back, appeared in front of present-Peter and Nathan and just told him, "Bad idea bro. I know you mean well, but this is how it turns out. . ."?

They brought in The Greatest American Hero and didn't make him a HERO? And killed him in one episode?

Mama Petrelli is no longer the Ambiguously-Evil Mom. Syler is much more like her then Peter and Nathan.

Ahhh, good concepts, fun to watch, but I'm continually haunted by what it could be.

Doc, I'm kind of with you.

I actually felt like last nights episode was too much. I'm kind of tired of the whole whose good at this moment vs whose good at the same moment. I understand things are complicated, but it seems overly complicated.

And yet again, the whole story arc is based on the world is going to end in a horrible way.

I almost wish it would go to the traditional good guys vs bad guys who are trying to rule the world. At least that would be more like a comic book.

I finally (finally) got around to watching this 🙄

I enjoyed it, but the points you made above are certainly right there. The biggest problem with the show, and many, many, others, is that you have to make the characters unbelievably dense in order to move the plot. Or at least the good guys have to be that way. The bad guys are usually just caught off-guard occasionally (a la syler with the energy burst).

Hiro isn't too powerful. He learned his lesson going back in time from the whole samuri thing. The same lesson that future Peter learned in this episode. The same thing that everyone who has ever read a time travel novel or seen a time travel movie knows - You are bound to screw it up and kill your grandfather or something like that. But I guess desperate times call for desperate action.

I need to watch a couple more episodes to get a better feel for where things are going this season....
