"Heroes" Rocks!

For a show I didn't really want to watch when it came out. . .DAMN! I'm really enjoying it, and think they're doing an amazing job. When "Dexter" finished it's first-season run last year, I wrote something to the effect that it was the finest season of series television I'd ever seen. "Heroes" may topple that by the end of the season.

They've done a great job of introducing characters and developing them - Horned-Rimmed Glasses Guy (Mr. Bennett) in particular. The cinematography is great, gives a comic-book feel without going over the top like the "Dick Tracy" movie. Up to this point, I've enjoyed the mysteries they've laid out, and I appreciate that they haven't tortured us incredibly before revealing the answers. The actor chosen to play Linderman was a great choice (being vague here to keep the my promise in the 'topic description' field), and his machinations add another layer to the plot. "Mama Petrelli" seems like a real enigma, and I'm looking forward to seeing what role she'll play, and where she stands in regard to Linderman.

The confrontation at the end of last night's episode (04/30) between two of the main characters was cool, but the next time I see that confrontation, I want 4-5 minutes of kicking ass, with cool hero-fu action and ILM-level special effects. I need that payoff. . .and I feel confident that this show will deliver. What a cool show!

One thing I worry about, though. With Hiro's ability, I think he's going to be over-powered. Ppl on some msg boards are already second-guessing what he's done, and what he could've done, or should've done instead. It's also confusing some viewers with paradoxes. They're gonna need to reign him in, or there will be little he can't do, or change. . .or else, he might not be around next season, for whatever reasons the writers come up with.

I haven't seen last night's episode yet but will be tonight I hope. I agree though, the show kicks some major bootay. It's the one that I truly look forward to watching.

I'll delve right into it. Mama Petrelli really opened up a few episodes ago with the Claire meeting. That was a shocker for me.

I like how they keep you guessing, even when they reveal something, only to find out later it wasn't true.

I don't think Hiro is over powered per se. I mean, they've shown he can make mistakes. Also, thinking back to the episode when he tried to save the waitress, didn't he learn that he couldn't change the past? If so, then Hiro isn't changing the past, but rather doing exactly what he is suppose to do.

For example, he was meant to go to the future. Case in point, the comic book he found in the future was written in the past and it foretold Hiro arriving in the future and the Prof helping him the way he did.

What really has me going is the way they keep you wondering who is good and who is not..... I love that!

One last item, did you notice the scar on Peter's face? Did anyone else think Hiro did it with his sword? I mean, it had to be there for some reason.

Awesome episode. However, my DVR missed the last 2-3 minutes somehow 😒 I'll have to find it elsewhere to watch the very end.

They sure do like to keep us twisting.

I'm happy to say that finally the kinds of shows that I like to see - plot driven are getting some staying power on TV.

So is this the end of Hero's or will there be a new season? They act like this is the last 5 episodes.

It can't be the end. I can see them getting another season out of it or more. Once syler is taken care of maybe there will be a new threat involving new heroes.....

More shows need to be like 24 in the sense that if they are plot driven (like Lost or Heroes) they need to say from the beginning that it is going to take 2 or 3 or 4 or however many seasons to tell this story completely. After that, it ends. It would require more creativity from the industry, but TV would be so much better for it.

It's renewed. The ratings are quite good, as I understand. Hopefully, they'll finish the "blow up NYC" plot this year, and move on to new things.

It is a shame that no one is watching Jericho. It has become a really really good show.

Any show you miss you can watch on NBC.com.. available right after the show airs. That is one of the niceties about NBC.

Like the last 5-6 episodes of the black donnelly's were/are available there to watch even though they didn't air.

Oh I agree. I'd have to say Jericho may be the best of the year. Dextor next, Heros third. I think since everyone and thier mother is turning out to have special powers, it cheapens the plot and will extend it endlessly as they just interduce new chars much the same way Lost was watered down.

When the old lady turned out to have powers it just made me think Heros is starting to ripoff the beginning plot of Xmen with a new mutant race.

Umm.. have you seen any of the episodes since the pilot, or even the pilot.

It is a rip-off of the X-Men but it is done in a modern nice remake sort of way that is not detrimental to either. Just like everything recent out of Hollywood its a remake of an old story... this time they did good though.

As for Jericho and Dextor.. never heard of em besides you two speaking of it a while back.. Don't even know what channel they come on.

I love Jericho. I am just as hooked on it as Heroes and Lost. In fact, I love Criminal Minds as well. Wednesday is my favorite night for TV. :-) Jericho, CM, then Lost....

As for Heroes, I have read several interviews and they are very aware of the lost trap and decided to avoid it. Just like a comic book, there will be an overall story, but each season will be an arc within that story. Supposedly, when this season ends, we will have a completed story and season 2 will start a whole new arc and may even include new players.

I love this idea, but it will be interesting to see how they pull off the new season.

So what if it's XMen like. It's a great story and very well done.

Latest Wired issue has an article about Tim Kring, the guy behind Heroes. Turns out, he knows nothing about Superheroes. He hired a bunch of writers who were into superheroes including a guy that actually wrote comics. It's kind of cool because they run their ideas past him and if he can understand it, then it gets into the show.

He's sort of a geek filter.... I think that is why it's so good. It appeals to a larger audience because of this....

Also, Masi Oka, who plays Hiro, use to work for International Light and Magic as a CG artist. In fact, he worked on one of the Star Wars movies. He also goes back once in a while because he's the only one that can use some of the tools he created.

I thought that was interesting.....

I find it interesting that Oka is a skilled programmer/CG guy AND plays one of the most popular characters on a hit TV show. Anybody that talented and successful has to be highly driven, as almost anyone else would be very happy to be ONE of those. He's probably more like Future-Hiro than present-Hiro.

No, it's a mistake. He MEANT "Industrial Light And Magic", as that's where Oka works.

I actually thought it was kind of lame.... I don't know, but it really feels like we are being set up for a let down. It's been so great until now, but the end is near and, well, it better answer a lot of questions and blow my socks off.....

I'm anxious for the finale.... And damit, it better be good!

The most recent episode WAS lame, in comparison to what came before. I haven't quite put my finger on it. . .maybe no big reveals, a plodding pace, no one doing much at all but talking about things we already know. The best moment was at the end where Peter met Nuclear Ted. I had hopes for the Syler & Mom reunion, and it had a moment or 2, but not great overall.

I felt the exact same way.... It was almost like a Milk it for all it's worth episode to drag it out just one more episode....

I thought it was actually good. Seeing Syler with his mother like that and not really regretting killing her was odd.

Hiro confuses me. How can he learn perfect English with no accent and turn into a killer like that in just 5 years?? My old barber has been in America for well over 20 years and it is still hard to understand him at times.

Maybe he absorbed a language power like that waitress had. hmmmmmmmm

It is going to be a light let down at the end because it has no place to go. I mean it is one of two things. The future will be saved and Syler dies or someone blows up and that future still happens.

Point is it hard to end something like that after this HUGE build up. It will still be great do not get me wrong, but it is hard to just end something like this and not let someone down as everyone has different expectations.

So the finale was pretty good. Again spoilers so don't read on if you haven't seen it.

Hiro going back in time to feudal japan was a twist I wasn't expecting.
Overall good stuff although a bit anti-climactic ending compared to the fight I was expecting.

Good drama, but that was really a ham-handed final showdown. Syler LETS Hiro charge a dozen feet and put 3 feet of steel in him? This dude stops speeding BULLETS, and he can't stop a little guy who's had a Berlitz course in swordplay? Hiro should've had to teleport to him. Clumsy, ham-handed fighting, not the big battle royale we were expecting.

Glowing hands? A ground-rule double by parking meter? Peter and Bro streak off to the sky and a big boom happens so far away, it looked like one of the bigger 4th of July rockets?

The cheaped-out on us!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering Kaboom! Flames shooting from people's hands, people getting iced over, telekinetic punches, people's heads removed like a pop-top! Things flying all over the place like a Half-Life 2 gravity-gun deathmatch! Instead, they fought like people with a 60 IQ, who knew they were supposed to be hurting each other, but didn't really want to, and didn't know how to. If I wanted to see that, I could've looked out my old apartment's window at the drunks on any given weekend.

It's not good when the battle 3 weeks before the end-of-season outdoes the final baddie confrontation.
Still a very cool show, but I wanted my FX extravaganza.

Peter could still be alive. Ted the Radioactive man hurt everyone around him, but never seemed to be injured by his own output. The "explosion" might have been a massive energy surge, and not Peter going to pieces. They could fanwank Nathan into life as well, saying he flew him up and let him go, and did not get any significant radioactive exposure. They COULD, of course I dunno if they will. At some point, Peter taking everyone's power he runs into will become a problem. When he can do everything everyone else can do, combined, and when he runs into more and more Heroes, he's gonna be like Superman. Granted, the Superman comics keep coming up with stories, but still, over-powered Heroes never floated my boat. I'm more a Batman fan 🙂

Is Syler alive? Did he crawl off while everyone was watching the kaboom? If so, I'm predicting a Syler team-up with the Heroes next season against the baddie. Seems like it would make good drama, and they'll evidently need help, if the next guys is much worse than Syler. . .well, either that, or Syler becomes the new guys toady.

Does Mama Petrelli convince people, like Eden did? It seemed like she could get everyone she touched to go along with whatever she said.

I with you guys. It was very anti-climatic. I actually felt let down.

I enjoyed it, but thought Lost did a better season finale.

As for the Brothers.... I liked the twist.... Mama on the other hand appears to be a very bad person.

Actually. peter survived it the first time. Who is to say he didn't this time? We'll see him again.

As for his brother. It's good to see he died a hero and not the power-monger asshole he was shaping out to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if after the next big baddie is just sylar after he has been in hiding for a while and the last moce is to kill sylar by having peter -who was in hiding until then- fly in in the last episode and have a good ole duke-em-out style the way we all wanted.

I watched the ending again. I'm not convinced that Sylar was still alive. He did see his life flash before his eyes.

I wonder if the really, really bad guy got him.....

hmmmm.....that he was dragged down instead of crawled. Interesting....
