Hobbit Sighting....

So, what do you guys think about Guillermo del Toro directing The Hobbit and the sequel to The Hobbit?

I just read he is in talks with Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen to reprise their roles from LoTR. I think that is a great move and will really help bridge the movies.

The Hobbit will be known as "There".
The Hobbit Sequel will be known as, "And Back Again".

I'm kidding, but it kind of fits.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Peter Jackson already filmed the sequel to "The Hobbit"?

Well, kind of.

While The Hobbit was a single Book and LoTR was three books, the movie's are taking a slightly different course with two movies covering the period before LoTR.

So, The Hobbit is the first movie and a sequel yet to be named is the second movie.

What I haven't been able to find out is if The Hobbit is going to be 2 parts or if they have something else up their sleeves for the 2nd movie.

It's been about a dozen years since I read "The Hobbit". . .I last read it for a report in my Children's Lit class (elective). I guess they'll have the up to the dragon's death in the first part, and the Battle of the Five Armies in the second. It seems a logical break in the action, though they may need to flesh out the second movie a bit. Shouldn't be hard. . .hell, to think of it, if they transferred everything from the book exactly as written, they probably could make 2 hours easy. Books are a lot more dense, story-wise, than film.

I wondered if they were going to take a stab at the new Tolken book that his son finished. I've heard it's a good story, but somewhat dry.

New Intellectual Property would be a big deal in the Middle Earth world. Think of all the spin off's they can make from there. At least 20 video games on that one story alone...

I hadn't considered that. What's the time frame of that cook, and does it involve any characters from the four main books (not the Silmarillion)?
