How Do Entangled Particles Communicate?

    This is from Wired Magazine..... It is absolutely mind boggling if you think about it. If you don't get it, let me know and I'll tell you what it means to me. You'll notice I didn't say what it says as I'm no quantum mechanic.


    One of the zanier notions in the plenty zany world of quantum mechanics is that a pair of subatomic particles can sometimes become “entangled.” This means the fate of one instantly affects the other, no matter how far apart they are. It’s such a bizarre phenomenon that Einstein dissed the idea in the 1930s as “spooky action at a distance,” saying it showed that the developing model of the atomic world needed rethinking.

    But it turns out that the universe is spooky after all. In 1997, scientists separated a pair of entangled photons by shooting them through fiber-optic cables to two villages 6 miles apart. Tipping one into a particular quantum state forced the other into the opposite state less than five-trillionths of a second later, or nearly 7 million times faster than light could travel between the two. Of course, according to relativity, nothing travels faster than the speed of light - not even information between particles.

    Even the best theories to explain how entanglement gets around this problem seem preposterous. One, for example, speculates that signals are shot back through time. Ultimately, the answer is bound to be unnerving: According to a famous doctrine called Bell’s Inequality, for entanglement to square with relativity, either we have no free will or reality is an illusion.     What are they doing sending quantum's to villages for? There are no actual labs to work with? WTF???
    And how in the hell do you time something that was so much faster than light?? WTF???

    I mean when you get that fast how can you count to 3 before you pressing the stop watch???? 😉

    I personally think that none if this stuff happened. They just say it does to get more funding to have jobs. How can you prove them wrong?? 🙂

    Well, what I read is these photons are somehow tied at a sub-sub-atomic level that we can not see. It's like they are connected via another dimension. It's mind boggling that this can happen.

    I had some schooling on quantum mechanics, it's wild stuff, but it was unsettling for me. In essence you hit the point where things are based too much in "belief" and not enough in what I would consider science. I guess there is alot fo unprovable theory.

    I don't dispute it's science, it was just not working for me.

    As for why I haven't spoken more on this, I made a promise to myself that I would not speak to quantum mechanics ever since the night I lost a my pants in a bet with a Med student over quantum mechanics. Although she was nice in her celebration, it was humbling none the less 😊

    Oh I do like this type of stuff! My problem is I am on the side of "time is relevant". I do not believe we or even subatomic particels can transvers time. For example: Say a there are two people seperated by a long distance which requires light to travel, for example 1 minute. Person no.1 waves a white flag at person no.2 . At this moment No.2 has not seen anything, but 1 min later he will see no.1 waving a flag. Here is the relevant part: for person no.1 is in the future in respect to no.2 But this is not an indication of time but of distance. If no.1 could travel faster than light to no.2 and arrive before 1 minute, would he then be in the past? No. Time remains the same. It is only relavent to the observer, i.e no.1 would say "oh I already waved that flag" (past) but no.2 would say "I have not seen it yet" (future). Time did not warp/bend but instead continued. Yes I know there are test and thoughts about worm holes or black holes where time could changed. But I still think it is only relevant to the beholder 😉
