How Oily is your Candidate?

    Oil Change International has a cool graphical tool on their website showing how much money each of the Presidential candidates received from oil and oil related companies.

    I don't think it's any surprise that the Republicans have received more money so far. What surprised me is how much Guliani had raised from them compared to others but I guess that reflects his early "frontrunner" status.

    You can also look at Congressional critters as well, including your own if you put in a zip code.

    What does surprise me is Hillary received more money than the projected Republican Nominee, McCain.

    Think about that for a moment. Which state do you think has more Oil, Arizona or New York?

    Hillary, as the early favorite from the Dems probably falls into the same category as Guliani. I don't think that these companies are stupid, they cover all their bets 😀

    I wonder if there is something out there like this that covers all corporate/large donations?

    Interesting that the Dems have raised far more money this year than the Repubs. The anectodal evidence from past elections would have the republicans throwing far more money into the circus. Maybe the're just saving for the actual election?

    The "top 15 employers" information is interesting. You see the same names pop up on all of the candidates lists except Ron Paul. He has said that he has the support of members of the armed forces and that certainly shows here - the money he's getting from Google employees surprised me.

    Yeah if only he wasn't tied to the racist newsletter, Ron Paul seems to have a grip on reality.

    It it just me, or does it seem that the federal govn't shouldn't be endorsing any candidate. Why are the armed services and DoD sending money to any of the candidates? Seems like a HUGE conflict of interest.

    Those are individuals employed by the Armed Forces/DoD not the agencies themselves. Same thing as all the others in that it's not the company giving the money but people who work for them.
