This is an interesting article about the Oscar award Al Gore received for his documentary.

Here is my favorite part of the article.....

Speaking of world-class hypocrisy, it turns out that Gore, while telling the rest of us to turn down our thermostats and the lights, consumes more electricity in a single month than the average American household uses in an entire year. The non-profit, nonpartisan Tennessee Center for Policy Research, checking the public records, found that Gore's mansion last year used 211,000-kilowatt hours of electricity, more than 20 times the national average. Since the release of his "Inconvenient Truth," Gore hasn't bothered inconveniencing himself by turning off a few of his own lights; since then his average monthly electrical consumption, compared with last year's, has increased 15 percent. No, I don't criticize him for living the high life; only that his own opulent lifestyle didn't slow down his lecturing an Oscar audience of reportedly one billion people about their profligacy.

    Ouch.......

Guy better install some solar panels or wind generators. . . he could sell the mansion, but realistically that's not a solution, he'd just be passing off the energy-wasting to someone else.

For what it is worth President Bush has a house that recycles rain water and has all kinds of environmentally friendly features.

I agree. Gore can use as much as he wants as far as I am concerned but do not spew out all kinds of crap and then not do it yourself.

BTW his documentary is utter BS.
    I am just saying. 😉

No this is not a political argument!!!!

    That's is pretty freaking cool.....

I've already decided I'm going to do some green stuff on the next house we get.... It'll be several years, but that's plenty of time to research....

Wired had a whole bunch of great info on how to do it. Now I have the time to research and maybe someday do something cool....

Anyone hear about what the new owners of TXU Energy are doing? Spending that kind of money, there has to be some truth to the amount of pollution we pump out and some of the concerns that go along with it, either that or Bush is handing cash out now to whoever starts to clean up with his new views on environmental policies I read about a few other large companies that plan to start to go to the green side as well spending millions. I only remember TXU simply because of the size of the company what it does and the fact that they were going to open 11 more coal burning energy plant in the near future but they have canned 8 of them
    http://www.txucorp.com/media/newsrel/detail.aspx?prid=1025
and decided to invest in wind and hydro power (If I remember correctly). More economical in the long run I don't know but, WERE Talking TEXAS People, TEXAS!!! "There Ain't No Hippie types down Here."(In my best hick accent.) Not to offend anyone but, Most Texans I know don't give a shit about anything except getting fat and staying cool drinking Bud or Curs smoking Marlboro's fishing and defending Bush on everything he says and does. Again like I said the Texans I know, which isn't many. And after that friggin movie everyone has something to say about being green. I am like one of those Texans I know minus the Bud (Pabst), Marlboro's (Camels), Fishing (Jerking off) Defending Bush (Nah he make himself look like an ass enough he doesn't need my help) BUT I do do a lot of shit that would be considered green (hippie shit) BUT I do it for my kids. ie healthier foods that have been processed less and are organic or hormone free (our generation is 30ish was raised on this shit food and we have yet to see, if anything, happens to us.) Are folks (age dependent here) had the beginning of their lives on decently good food and are ending it with shit foods. Being pumped up with cow hormones from the milk we drink, no wonder why all these fags are mixed up with their sexuality. What they really want is a cow to fuck. I'm just kidding Sheesh!!
Holly shit I just wrote a book!! Time to stop and see what problem I have that has driven me to rant like this. Did I get the topic right?

Gore contends that he purchases enough stock in green projects that he should be exempt from public critizism. I have to turn off lights and freeze to conserve. I don't care he uses $1500 a month for power, just don't sit on his Jetstream and tell us we're wasteful with our $100 a month bills.

30 some years ago the big thing was global cooling. My God we are going to freeze over, the ice cap is growing down into North America, run!!! Now it is global warming, run for the hills!!! Give me a break.

The planet goes through these natural changes all the time. Ice core samples have proven it. There were warmer temperature changes hundreds of years ago before humans even had factories and cars. Also all of this Co2 emission talk is BS anyway as Co2 is plant food. Trees convert it to oxygen so who cares! These are not the things that matter.

Also just ONE volcanic eruption spews more crap into the air than all the cars have since their inception. How many of those have happened in the last 150 years since humans started to have factories? I really think it is kind of having a delusion of grandeur to think that we can damage the planet worse than Mother Nature herself in "this" way. If we do affect the planet this way at all, it is so minimal as to have very little impact.

I am not saying we do not do other damage, like landfills but even that is handled very well usually in the US but not else ware, and I am not saying things should not continued to be improved. Cars, yes including my SUV, put out 10 times less particulates then they did just 15 years ago. Should we keep improving them, of course. Will it create global warming, no. It can effect local weather and conditions such as smog so yes improve things the best way you can. Just do not say that we are effecting the entire planet overall just by driving an SUV.

All the “we are warming the planet up” panic is total BS and it is just an excuse for the environment weenies to bitch about, and more importantly to them, control everything you do!

Also if we are causing global warming then why are all of the other planets in our solar system also warming up? It is the sun! The sun goes through changes and it affects all the planets INCLUDING us. Unless of course me driving my SUV is effecting the temperature on mars somehow, leave me alone.

It has nothing to do with pollution or temp changes, it has everything to do with power and money. LIBs are playing on people's emotions as they always have. The fact of the matter is the earth is not even 1/2 degree warmer in the last thirty years, and the oceans haven't risen enough to even be measured. Last year it was still less than one centimeter in how many ass decades. There was a lawsuit filed by some little pissass island nation near the Phillipines. After a year of millions spent on lawyers, the real levels of the ocean finally got it thrown outta court.

It might be a hoax, but one 1/3 of the voters in this country believe enough to keep funding it with.

Oh, I just read Gore spends over $30k in utilities for his mansion. Indoor heated pool, electric fence and gates, gas latterns lining the driveways, etc. He also has a jetstream which puts out enough greenhouse gases in one trip coast to coast to equal two SUV owning familys for a year. There were other noted liberal celebs, such as Sen Fienstien (CA) and Gov Terminator with Jetstreams. All purchase green stocks as claims to balance thier energy hungry excessives.

In the UK meteorologists are blaming climate change after reviewing that this winter has been the second warmest since records began in 1659.

Funny that. How many cars and power plants were around back then?
So 1659 was the WARMEST winter on record with no cars or factories around. Just proves all of this is just a natural Earth cycle.

The last 2 sentences are a post hoc fallacy. Post hoc ergo propter hoc. . . Because one thing is true, it does not necessarily follow that the other thing is true.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_hoc_ergo_propter_hoc

Most scientists seem to think global warming is real. I know the right-wing radio talk hosts don't. I don't get my politics from scientists, so I'm not about to get my science from politicians or political pundits. That includes Al "I'm from Tennessee and my own people hate me" Gore. . .but it does happen that many scientists are agreeing with him. It's not all that unusual for a politician to see which way the wind is blowing and take advantage of it.

There is no law in physics or nature that says the planet Earth must remain habitable for life as we know it. It's only the through a wildly improbable set of circumstances that it ended up like this. We could've easily ended up too cold, like Mars, or a high-pressure, high temperature hothouse like Venus. Even Carl Sagan said that even if there is intelligent life on other planets, it's so rare that we shouldn't count on hearing from them.

I'm not saying that we're doing something that the Earth can't recover from. It could be, though, that we might make things pretty uncomfortable for us for a few hundred to a few thousand years. It might be smart to thoroughly investigate before we get that far.

I do not get my science from politics either. It just so happens that politics gets involved in science therefore, so do I. Just because I lean to the right does not mean I swallow the kool aid just because. You know me and you know I think for myself. I am very into science and I read these things on my own and I think for myself thank you. 😉

With that said just because some scientists agree with Gore does NOT in any way mean they ARE correct either. This works both ways. Is it not possible that politicians cling to bad science as a way to move their agenda along? It would not be the first time in history this has happened.

My point to the discussion is simply many scientists do agree that there is global warming as you said. I am not actually arguing that. Many others do not. It is not the majority of scientists that are Pro Global warming or better yet Global cause. If there were 90% of scientists saying we are the cause of Global Warming, I would think to myself that maybe there is something to it. However for every scientists that says it exists, there are many that disagree. You simply do not hear a lot from them. They do not want to lose their funding, they do not want the scrutiny. the ones that do stick their head out of the hole have some compelling evidence to the contrary as well. They also state what some others say that agree but won't come forward.

There have been a lot of scientists that have been told to shut up about it when they say it is not happening and it is all standard for the Earth to go through this. They get funded by the federal government and then we get back into the politics of it all, it is all about money.

Money spent "buying" other countries Co2 credits. What a joke this is. The politicians want to keep the issue strong. Just today I heard a report that Gore buys his credits from a web company they he himself owns and no one else can buy them from there. That is nuts. I will wait for this to be confirmed of course but it would not surprise me.

They want to scare people so they do just that. They want it an issue so they can adopt policies that benefit them and there constituents.

You said "Because one thing is true, it does not necessarily follow that the other thing is true." I totally agree with you but does it not follow that something can also be true because another is?

Does it not make sense that if it was warmer in 1659 that the possibility exists that we did not have much influence on it back then as we could now.

The entire discussion and point everyone is saying is that we are the cause of it with our cars etc... Well again, no cars back then so what was the reason?

I am actually not saying that Global Warming does not exist. I am saying it is natural for the Earth to do so and not the because of us. I am not convinced that the Earth is worse off now than it has been back then. I am however open minded and will continue to read and research the issues. I reserve the right to change my mind. 😉

I try to read everything from all sources, but I do tend to discount just about everything a liberal has to say on just about every subject. Like with Gore/enviromentism, I've seen lots more lies and spin from them then the other camp. Its not that I'm a conservative, its more I'm an antiLIB , hehehe. There are some Democrates I respect, just not the left leaning 'give me the money moveon.org' camp.

Seriously, this stuff is old hat, always has been. Enviromentals get critical mass under Clinton types, and later have to hiberate under Bush. Last month there were a series of articles from the NYTs that claimed Bush was buring and underfunding scientific research, or more to the point, buring the results in red tape and deadends. Bush wants a 'legacy' now, so he's gonna reverse afew of his principles to get a kinder historical prospective. Had he won 06', he would still be ignoring 'tree huggers' 🙂

Oreilly is kinda a treehugger but he hasn't convinced me of anything. I appreciate Rush for his directness on the subject, King I ignore because he has Gore on his lap, Savage is direct, cruelly so, but he hates everyone, heh.

I've read some good books on the subject but I'm for shit to remember authors/titles. One dealt with all the research in Antartica reguarding GW, the other one was based in CA around the legal and lobbying interests concerning the Pacific basin with the sea level.

I am far from a full blown conservative. I lean right and usually vote Republican but that is because I agree with them more. I find most democrats to be spiny little weasels with no balls. 🙂
Time and time again they say one thing then do another. They say we should not be in Iraq, fine, but never EVER have an answer of what we SHOULD do!

Bring a GOOD democratic candidate into the mix and I will vote for him/her. Believe me I have. I actually do not like to admit it now but lets just say I voted for a democrat in a major election once. ONCE! 😉

I totally support President Bush on the economy (tax CUTS) and foreign policy. Sorry we are at war whether we are over in Iraq or not. These guys (extremist) want us dead no matter where our troops are located, or what country we are in. We could pull out every American from every country and keep totally to our selves and they would still attack and kill us. They hate us simply because we are not Muslim, period! Not because we invaded such and such country, not because of our foreign policies, not because we looked at them the wrong way. The sooner people realize this the better we will be. Anyway with that said a lot of President Bush's domestic polices are so very wrong. We need to close that damn border. These are things for another discussion 😉

If that site you mentioned above did not say republican I would have never believed it. The way it is worded is even democratic like. I really wonder if that is not a RINO (Republican In Name Only) site. Regardless I still disagree with it 😉

So we will now be causing the next the ummm the next Fire Age, yea that is it, you heard it here first..... and Ice core results have proved that we are much worse off now than... wait no they actually proved this temperature change has happened before hundreds of years ago... hmmm..

Well we have cars and factories now that spew tons of particulates into the air that the earth has never seen before... err wait. Nope just one good volcanic eruption spews more than we ever did....

Okay we are causing warming because of all the camp fires around the world caused by PEOPLE.... wait no one good forest fire from a lightning strike spews more than all the campfires that have preceded it for decades. these have also happened all through the Earths history and also spews just an obscene amount of Co2 and other harmful gases...

Truthfully man I am just not convinced that the things we put into the atmosphere on a normal day to day basis is doing any more harm than nature has and will do. Can we cause man made unnaturally high global warming and destroy life as we know it? Of course. Set off x amount of nuclear blasts. We could get hit by an asteroid and that would pretty much kill us all if it were large enough.

See I just do not see us being the overall cause of what I perceive to be a natural occurrence in Global Warming. I am also not saying that we are not doing any harm at all. I think just 50 years ago at the hight of the steel industry we harmed our local environment a lot and I believe we do harm it do various degrees to this day. However we have cleaned up our act and I think localized conditions have improved and do improve once any negative current conditions cease. I think the Earth as a whole has an uncanny ability to recover from an enormous amount of climate conditions and disasters.

But this is just me... 😉
Crappy ads on this site but...

I can post web sites out the ass, you can post web sites out the ass. I'll leave this be if you will, but in the future, your 'drive-by' postings about this subject will be debated, and not left to stand on their own. I feel differently about this than you, though _I_ don't continually bring it up to you.

I really think all the info isn't in on this. This is HUGE problem to model and analyze, but I also think to turn a blind eye to it, or worse, to loudly and continually deny there's no reason to look into it, is criminally negligent. That's what bothers me about your position on this subject: that you don't see the need to even look into it, and you ridicule it at every turn. It's just so out of character for a person who otherwise loves science and extols the virtues of research and discovery.

Oh, and you say the 'height of the steel industry". The steel industry is still there, it's just elsewhere, some of it in countries that don't put all the pollution controls in place like they eventually did in Pittsburgh. China's doing plenty of this.

WTF!!! Here I thought we just having a simple discussion. drive-by posting??? WTF!

I am so sorry. You are right. I am wrong. Forgive me for just having a simple forum based discussion. Forgive me for having my own opinion and worse yet actually posting it. So basically since all my posting are "drive-by" and WILL be debated right or wrong, why bother posting at all. I guess that is the bottom line here.

I do not mind you not agreeing with me. I do not mind a difference of opinion or debate. I DO mind basically being told I am not entitled to.

Forgive me you excellence for breathing the same air as you. I won't bother again. Everythinng I have done for you as a friend and you had to say somethng like that man? All the times I felt like I was walkign on egg shells around you. You lose in game and you leave in a huff so I try my best to make you feel comfortable... Oh I could get so much more personal. Out of respect I won't. Wow...

You could not let me just have a conversation here?? You could have just let it go.. You had to do a personal attack. Here I thought this was a free country.

I do not need this in my life right now. I think I am about done with this place.

    You guys have fun.

I do apologize to everyone else here if my postings caused any grief.

There's so much horseshit and liberal bashing in this thread i'm not sure where to start or how offended to be 🤔

Thankfully I just got back from vacation and just don't give a shit enough to get involved. 😀

While I was out taking care of a few things this afternoon, I've was also doing some thinking regarding the previous post I made in this thread. When I came home, I sat down and typed this into notepad. There's no real reason to read the responses to a post that probably deserved no response. Besides, to respond and reply to those posts would just continue the debate/discussion/argument, and as you'll read below, I have no interest in that.

First, I want to apologize for the tone of the post. Advice to self for the future: Don't post about things that make you angry if you are very hung over. It doesn't help.

Second, I've decided I don't care about global warming. I'll be dead before it has much of an effect on the environment (if global warming is real). I have no children, and prospects in that area look poor at best, so there you go. I have no dog in this fight. Post away, I'll never post a rebuttal or a link. If anyone DOES have a dog in this fight, it's their own lookout to decide whether there's anything to worry about, and I don't need to be involved in that. It was silly of me to even care what other people think. If I'd come to this realization a day or two ago, this post wouldn't even be necessary.

Third, I was thinking about conservative radio, and what it is about it that bothers me. I find myself generally agreeing with most of what they say whenever I listen to these shows (Hannity, Limbaugh, Glenn Beck...), but that doesn't make me like them more, or make me feel better about what I think. I pondered this today. I'm not going to argue and fight over it, but I chimed in, and now I need to say what the hell I was all worked up about, or I'll look even more like a rambling, inarticulate idiot than I am.

I thought maybe it was because they remind me of a hard-sell salesman, but on further reflection, evangelist fits better. They are evangelists, substituting Conservatism for God. Preaching with the self-satisfaction and assurance that can only come from the knowledge that they are never wrong, and those evil, stupid simple non-believers are ALWAYS wrong, and will surely burn in hell. The hosts preach away to the converted, and "ditto-heads" devour the daily topic, and never miss an opportunity to regurgitate it in an effort to convert an unsuspecting co-worker. I get the idea that if a liberal were to say the sky was blue and the grass is green, the conservative talk-show hosts would spend the next week proving it wasn't so. Bear in mind that the same thing almost assuredly applies if you replace every "conservative" reference in this msg with "liberal", and vice-versa, so I'm not fond of ANY of these assholes.

This was fine. I don't care for them and while I find it annoying that they, and their liberal counterparts eat up hours of radio time every day, I accept that I should not turn on the radio and expect anything different. I even accept that they serve a useful purpose. However, what blew my lid was when they stepped over the line from politics to science. Their listeners, conditioned by years of "hallelujahs" and "Amens", came to think there was a LIBERAL view of science, and a CONSERVATIVE view of science. Science is science, and either science has a conclusion (given current knowledge), or they have theories that require further testing and knowledge. There should be no such concept as liberal or conservative involved, and only an idiot would try to apply it.

They have as much business getting involved in this as the Creationists have trying to force Creationism into public school science classes. If you're gonna preach religion, stay out of science. If you're gonna preach conservatism, or liberalism, same thing. Not your damned area of expertise.

I suppose I'm being naive. Everyone seems to feel the need to belong to something. It makes them feel more secure, gives them a sense of support, of belonging. . .and it seems once you do belong to something, a kind of group-think takes place, where everyone starts to think the same about EVERYTHING. It can't be limited to one area.

So, in the future, I'll shut up and avoid any threads that indicate politics or global warming are going to be a discussion. I have really had it up to here with politics in general, and I think I'd be happier if no one ever broached the subject with me again.

    EDIT:

Just a clarification. As noted under my third point, the comments here are related to conservative talk radio in general(with many parallels to liberal talk radio as well), and not to any individual here.

Agreed! And this thread is proof of that. So more pointed than others but still opinions.

    Some of my hypocrisies:
I personally have a hard time taking a aspirin or Tylenol for a head ache, I just don't like taking pills. Although I don't have a problem taking vitamin supplements.

I also have a problem with the little purple pill. If a type of food gives me heart burn I listen to my body and don't eat that food. Rather than take a pill and continue. Spicy foods kill me. But on the other hand I've had beer give me terrible heart burn as well but I'm not stopping drinking beer. One of those being a drunk things where you need some tums in yur pocket all the time. That was years ago but still happens occasionally.

Once while campaigning for re-election, I stopped at this fire house and that is where I had some great sex with this nun!!

Dang Bubba......! No wonder you don't want people to know where you are from.... LOL....

Hymen, I'm the opposite. I take two pills a day for my stomach issues. However, if I don't take them, anything I put in my stomach will make me sick. So, as long as I am on the pills, I'll eat the spicy stuff..... 😛

My wife however is a lot like that. She is a Nurse, yet she won't go to the doctor when she is sick and she hates taking pills and pushes it to the determent of the rest of us. It never fails. If she gets something from work, I get it, then give it back to her after she's feeling better.
