Mike judge releases new movie, no one notices!

Mike Judge's first movie since Office Space was released in September of last year. Did anyone here know that? I didn't. . .but it's out on DVD now.

What is it with Fox? Burying a Mike Judge movie, managing to destroy a sure-fire sci-fi hit like firefly. . .

Bah I am in the process of watching the Firefly series.
I gotta say... it's not as all as good as people made it out to be. I heard ravings about how its the greatest SciFi series ever made, it's maybe in my top ten, maybe.

I thought Firefly was great. It was different than anything else out there.

I was HUGE into Babylon5, enough said. Its my nick on tons of sites all over the web 😉
I loved any StarTreks of course.
BG was cool, I like the new one as well.
SG1 and SG Atlantis is great Sci-Fi.
Quantam Leap was cool but not really sci-fi in some ways since that was so minimal in the stories but I was a huge fan.
Farscape....<sigh>... Loved!!!!! the first two seaons and I have never seen any show go down hill so fast and so hard as that show.... I mean it went from 60 to 0 in one season flat. it got soooo lame....

See firefly is so good because it is so raw. No weird aliens, just good drama. You really need to appreciate it and the way Nathan and Jane deal with each other... I guess, when you do get it it is great... if not...

I'll understand if you don't care for the Sci-fi aspects. . .after all, it featured no alien races, very little high-tech weaponry, and no space battles, 3 things ppl love and expect from their space-based sci-fi. However, the characters and the dialog were simply unmatched.

In many shows, there are a couple of characters you like, and every time they are off-screen, you start wishing they would show back up. . .sometimes shows will have a story arc which will feature 1 or 2 characters, and if they're not a character you care for, that episode is a loss for you. In Firefly, EVERY character is interesting. Even the dull-witted thug (Jayne) is a joy to watch. Only B5 comes close in characters & dialog, imo, with J'Kar & Londo. . .and I LOVED B5. It's #2 on my list.

I also liked the way Firefly played with standard movie conventions, like when Mal kicked the bad guy into the engine. In most sci-fi, the good guy would never kill someone in cold blood, no matter what that person was threatening to do. In this case, Mal saw a danger and eliminated it, a perfectly sensible reaction to a dangerous man who promised to come after him in the future. I also love the following bit:

ZOE: "No, this is something the captain needs to do himself."
<Jayne lowers his gun.>
MAL<struggling with bad guy>:"No it's not!!!"
ZOE: "Oh."
Bang.

Have you seen the OLD Battlestar Galactica episodes recently? I know Paladin will disagree with me, but I feel there was some piss-poor writing, a show only a child can love. . .and I know most of us here were children when we last saw it.

I'm scared that the NEW BSG may be jumping the shark. I'll reserve judgement until I see where they go with the rest of the season, but they've got me worried. Farscape was great. They got pretty "out there" the last season, but even then I liked the characters.

Watch ALL the episodes. Get to know the characters. Ppl heap so much praise upon this show that it's impossible to live up to the hype, but by the end, you'll see it comes close.

Lexx rocked, what is wrong with you guys?? The science at least worked and was feasable. StarTrek NG was completely bust IMO. Too damn stiff and ultra fake. Original StarTrek and later Enterprise were good tho. B5 and Farscape were next best.

Like how many times have you guys watched FireFly?? I get the impression you've watched each episode 10x's, lol. I did like the two with the redhead tho 🙂. Variety, variety I sez.

Oh, BSG is much better than the original series ever could have dreamed to be. Too bad Dune never adapted to a weekly series, then again, that could have ruined the best sci-fi of all time.

I think you have not seen them in some time so forget the good parts and some of the writing was actually decent so 😛

Well you know I agree on the new BG show, it has been really good then very lame. I am sick of the damn cylons and trying to figure them out, be bad, be good, PICK SOMETHING!

Also the show needs to level off with these characters, they are ALL over the place. Starbuck is okay one min, then psycho the next. Too many Sharon's, I cannot keep track. 😉

Get the story down to exploring more and doing things that are interesting. Hell even ST pulled that off 😉

I have now watched every episode of Firefly and I gotta say its just eh.
It would not compel me to watch every week as Bab5 did. I know they cut it short, but there was very little character development. The backstory was left untold.
It was entertaining, but not really that great. I was afraid it was going to be Buffy in space instead it ended up being Chinese Space Cowboys... and bad ones at that.
The whole I'm the good guy who is also bad is so over played these days. When was the last time the main character of a show was actually a good guy? Thats why star trek was such a huge success, and even Bab 5. Those characters actually showed the heroic side of life. Not everyone is inherently bad, there really are people out there who live to do good for others. Call me crazy but I see enough of the assholes of the world, I'd like to see one good guy who is just a good guy.

As for the new BG, I watched a few episodes, found it lacking and gave up.I really don't handle remakes well. It's a failing of our generation to make everything new again and now come up with new stories. It really dissapoints me as a SciFi fan. 93.5% of the reason a person to watch SciFi is to watch new ideas, not old rehashed ones. Plus no Ben Cartwright...no good.

Oh and for someone who thought Firefly was so good to bash Lexx is just crazy talk. That show was awesome for what it was. It was a fun scifi that loved to make fun of itself. The characters were well developed and a very interesting mix.... Plus that chick was smoking.

I am sorry Megaron. I really am.
