Ok so locally we have what is known as Mage Con Spring going on April 22-24. There is a Fall Con that takes place as well.. and for about 6+ years there has always been a minor LAN held.. with each year getting more and more players bringing machines to expand the gameplay.. We've never really done any sponsorship.. but last year I think we had..15-16 machines.. I know small in comparison to some LAN's out there.. but with prize support I think we may just draw a few more.. With it being a 3-day event there is plenty of time to work in a lot.. as well as other games going on at the convention.. Myself and others mostly just dink around with the LAN.. For prizes I'm buying a few "Corgi" Diecast models.. 50:1 scale part of the History Channel Series.. Tiger..Sherman..Panther..Sdkfz7..Cromwell..Churchill..Stulka.. I might get some of the smaller scale models as well.. that is to be determined.. As well as expanding the selection of 50:1 and 32:1 scale.. (i.e. Corsair..Spitfire..Mustang..109..BoTB Sherman) The idea being a tournament is held over the course of select maps.. the Top finisher on either side.. One Axis.. One Allied get their choice among that particular side.. of the Corgi model they'd like.. then 2nd place getting to choose.. 3rd.. possibly 4th and so on.. I'm also buying the signature series shirts from RedvsBlue.. Like Church..Tucker..Grif..Sarge.. very cool looking and I think will make for fun prizes with other stuff.. Since this is all out of pocket from myself.. does a $10 admission to take part in the tournament for the prizes sound fair? Corsair has already offered to send some swag.. and Bawls is interested as well so we're getting prize support.. Just any input would be great!.. The Tournament for the Corgi will of course be Forgotten Hope 😛 If anyone is also interested here in coming to the LAN.. it is taking place in South Sioux City near the Marina Inn that looks over the Missouri River.. and I think they have special rates for the event.. again any input would be great!

Yah 10 clams is not to much for the average Joe to pony up.
    Good luck

I've always wanted to check one of those out but couldn't figure out how to tell the girlfriend....."Mmmmm, honey, I'm going to a motel to meet a bunch of strangers at a motel in Souix City to play video games....." I don't see it going over well .

Yea, I catch crap from my wife over it. But, Quakecon is worth it.

I think $10 sounds fine, but from experience, most the people I know go to a lan to play games and not win prizes. You have to ask yourself, is it better to have a free event with more people and no prizes or take a chance that people will pay the $10. It doesn't sound like much, but to some people, it's that or 1/8 tank of gas to get to work. :-)

There has been a big debate over this exact thing at our local lan and the concensus seems to be prizes are ok, but we want to play games.

My idea is all about input!
I was going to start some thing here called VAG-Con.
I've been talking to the local strip clubs and girls, as well as a couple producers and directors. But all I have to offer so far for prizes is VD, Syphilis, gonorrhea... you know the standard STD's. I think I might have a hard time signing people up! What do ya think! Some of you could fly in for it, and you could even share your prizes with your loved ones!

Edit I've had a few beers tonight! 😀

heh.. Hymen.. That sounds like quite the gathering! No more beers for you 😛

Well it's a 3-day convention and all so we'll have more then enough time for Open Gaming and such as well.. We used to do the World War Tournament but decided we'd need more players to really kick it off.. And once again this time outside food can be brought in so no overpaying on Con food.. I'm trying to make it so that everyone who does take part in the LAN gets something any sort of feee goes direct towards reducing the out of pocket cost I'm doing towards getting prizes... I think it's 25 as it is for the weekend.. 20 if you pre-reg.. so that is why I am curious as to if 10 bucks is fair or not.. We don't see the Registration money.. that goes to the people running the Con.. who I believe put it in a fund to run the next Con.. Should be fun this year for sure..
