New Gas Prices = Arm and Legs

So i know this topic is way off from mosts posts ive seen so far , so i decided to make it, the price of gas is just too high and im wondering how much the prices are varying state to state or country to country whichever is ur situation. the sad part is that the gas prices are not based on how much oil is this year its based on supply and demand and thats bull, sooner or later its estimated that gas prices will reach $5 a gallon by the end of the summer , which means alot more public transportation. because sooner or later ppl are gonna get mad and start boycotting or something, ok , probably not , we will probably take it because face it , we are dependant on oil. anyways gas here in rhode island is around $3.25 a gallon how bout where you live and how you feel about it? im interested in peoples opinions on this subject.

Here in NW Tennessee, Gas runs from $2.99 to $3.19. I've been getting it at $3.09 near the house, but I'm avoiding the cheap gas stations attached to grocery stores & such, where I could get it for $2.99.

Right now it's about $3.099. But for a while there we hit $3.599 in certain areas of the Oklahoma City Metro. It was bad. But I'm really glad I'm driving a Scion XB (30mpg city and 30mpg highway) as opposed to the Chevy 1500 Silverado 4x4 Z71 V8 350 I was previously driving. Heck, it was eating about 50% of my check last summer. It was just bad. especially considering 95+% of my time is spent on paved roads. Sadly, I fear the predictions of $4 a gallon by the end of summer may, very well, be true.

We're right around $3.00 a gallon here in southern New Hampshire. There's one place in town that was $2.97 last night but most of the rest seem to be above 3. Thankfully my commute is very short and so a tank of gas for my Accord will last 2-3 weeks depending on how many meetings I have outside the office.

Gas around Pittsburgh is 3.099 average. I would not worry about $5/gallon man. It won't happen unless a refinery goes down for some reason. I drive a 4X4 Explorer V8 that gets about 12.5 MPG. I drive 20 miles a day back and forth to work. I use fuel perks a lot... it helps...

Because of government regulations the refineries, which we need more of them since no new ones have been built since the mid 70's, have to generate something like 20 some different mixes of fuel for different parts of the country for the summer. This always slows refining and causes prices to go up. It will settle again. It is not the supply but the refining that is "usually" the problem.

If the damn government would simply let the same mix be used all across the country this would not be an issue at all.

We need to build a few new refineries.

Now that we have the Queen comments out of the way.....

It's been right around the 2.99 to 3.09 here in N. Dallas. Seems to me the gas companies have got this down pat. They use to have all sorts of price variations across the country, but they figured out if they screwed everyone equally, it wouldn't garner as much press. :-)

There is legislation being proposed in Texas that would require the Gas Comapnies to notify the State if they increase prices more than .05/gallon at any time. That will be interesting.

The other thing I've heard is Texas has something like 6 or 11 (can't remember which it was) Billion Dollars in Surplus Tax Funds, so they are considering dropping the state tax on fuel. I believe it would lower it .20/gallon.

Either way, we are about to find ourselves in a really bad situation. With the minumum wage hike, those of us not making Minumum Wage will find our money devalued. Add to that the fact that everything we buy is tied to the fuel market. This will mean higher prices across the board. Then add to it the fuel costs.

Last summer, my wife and I were spending $400+ a month for fuel. That is just crazy.....

That was together. I was doing a minimum of 60 miles a day. Depending on the sites I had to visit, it increased quite a bit.

Still, it crazy.....

I get about 10 days out of a tank of gas so need to fill up about 3 times a month. The fuel perks we have here help but I still pay around $150/month in gas.. I just consider it the cost of doing business 😉
