I started using this technic so I wouldn't ruin my CD anymore than I have. I.E. (taking it in and out of case, then proceeding to drop it, followed by not putting it in the tray properly and closing it in the drive half assed putting a big scratch on it, and yes I was drinking)
I'm sure most of you may already do this, but I thought it might be useful info for someone!!
I used a No-cd patch for Battlefield 1942 but didn't update it after the last patch. It is supposed to load your maps quicker as it doesn't have to access the cd for a verification that you are running a legal copy of the game. I don't know if it loaded faster for me, but it worked. I have yet to try a no-cd patch for BFV, mostly because I so rarely change out to other CD's that it just isn't worth messing with at this point.
Have never run into a problem with pb and don't know about twl, don't know what it is! As far as getting in trouble, from my understanding of copyright laws you can make digital images, backups copies, of yur software for your own personal use. You can even copy your DVD's to DVD's legally as backups, as long as you don't distribute them. It's in the courts right now, i believe. I got the copyright info from techtv's screensavers!

It was a Moderator who put the post on the site and it's been up and still is up since 3/26/04 on battlefieldnam.com so i would believe that it is perfectly ok.
I was using Alcohol for my legally owned UT2k3 ISO. I was testing it out for future use. I really liked it, but BFV checks for Alcohol and Daemon Tools. If it finds either installed, it will not install. I don't know if you load either after loading BFV. A lot of games are starting to do this. Personally, I think it's crap, but if I want to play the game, I have no choice. I uninstalled both and have to hunt for cd's.
Any idea if the MS application also gets checked by BFV?

I've actually have had no problems with that! I have the images (from a legal copy) created by alcohol 120%(demo) in a folder titled alcohol 120% on my 2nd drive. After a crash i did a clean reloaded of win xp pro onto my main drive then daemon then BFV from the images on drive 2. And I have had no problems with installation. I did not have alcohol installed. May be it looks for alcohol but with Daemon installed, again, I had no problems!
Before I bought BFV, I used Dameon tools and it worked fine. The only thing is I didnt have a key. But once I bought it, I could still use D-tools instead of the CD, and play online. It took up to much space though, so I dont use it anymore.
And Like Sarge, I rarley ever take out the CD. Only to play 42, or watch some good pron. lol

This must be a system specific problem? Do you remember what type of image you used maybe that's where it had a problem! 2/3 safedisk is the image type I use.
I've even ran the game from an image after an os reinstall with out a game install (directly from a copy of previous os EA folder). So I think that rules out BFV looking at registry keys.
It wasn't a BFV image. It was during the install from the BFV cd. It checked for Alcohol and wouldn't install. I removed Alcohol and it installed perfectly. However, I have installed Daemon Tools since then and never had a problem.
I use to run the Alcohol ISO for BF1942, but have changed tot eh No-CD patch for 1942. Don't have BF_V so can't comment there. But either Alcohol or No-CD work fine on DC_F and BF1942. Load times are about the same for me.
