Nothing related to Music or Games... (Muscle Cars)

Being a child born in the middle 70's and childhood in the 80's, I missed out in the great muscle car era in the 60's and early 70's. Yes there have been some great "performance" cars in the 80's and 90's. But no real muscle cars. You read magazines and watch shows, and they call some puny little 4 banger that can get 0-60 in 6 seconds a muscle car. BAH! That isn't a muscle car.

I have to be honest, I like cars with muscle. I've owned 3 mustangs. I'm still a believer in the old 302. The newer 4.6 doesn't even compare in power and gas mileage of the old 302. My 89 GT got 36mph on the highway, and my 2004 got 24. Go figure.

We'll I haven't had a muscle car for 2 years now, because I haven't seen a car that really stood up to the title. I was excited when Ford re-introduced the mustang with the retro Muscle car looks from the late 70's. Unforunatley they introduced it 1 year too late. Had they introduced it on their 40th anniversary, I'd probably have one now. I see they have re-introduced the Shelby GT350 for next year. :twisted:

GM/Chevrolet took one step closer by putting V8's back in the Impala and Monte Carlo, but those are lacking. No real muscle car was front wheel driven? The Pontiac GTO is just an Australian Holden Monaro performance car knockoff. Look it up, they are the same car just the steering wheel moved.

Now Dodge, the are getting their muscle car act together. I have to admit, i've never been a Dodge fan, but I really like what they are doing lately. They took a big step lately by re-introducing the Charger. The one major thing I dislike about the car is it is a 4 door. Charger wasn't a 4 door! Look at the "General Lee"! -on a side note, the viper is just a performance roadster to me. not a muscle car.-
Today, Dodge announced their new concept. The Challenger. This was only 1 of 3 cars that I actually liked from the Dodge/Chrystler brand (Charger, Challenger, Cuda). I really hope they keep the actual model true to the concept, because they got this one right. Check it out! Pretty cool.

Looks like the 200x's may be the return of the muscle cars, even with the higher gas prices.

nice looking car, I have been wanting to rebuild either a chevelle or maybe a late 60's GTO for a while now. Got the wifes permission now I need to find the car and the money. She wants a late 50's truck though.

BTW, like the challenger, and have never liked mustangs. And I am a Mopar guy.

Here's hoping Chevrolet unveils the new Camaro concept tomorrow morning. :twisted:

If they do, let's see how close the guys over at cheers and gears got.

The Camero looks a little to strange for me, like someone that does not have a love for muscle cars designed what they thought would be cool.

The other is from the cheersandgears.com site. That just happens to be the latest art concept going around. Then again, I remember the charger concept was NOTHING like what it is today. So, you have to take these concepts with a grain of salt. I think the end results looking like the concept depend upon the public response to it, much like the mustang.

The challenger is very cool. Really looks like an updated version of the original.

I'm a Ford Truck guy (learned to drive in a 78 Bronco with a 6" lift and 33" MT's) and a Chevy Car guy. Growing up, I heard my dad's stories of the 55 2 Door no post Chevy he bought at the junkyard for $50 and rebuilt. It was his first car. His second car made me love chevy muscle cars. 1969 SS 396 Chevelle brand spanking new. He blew the engine twice in the first 4 months and rebuilt it both time. I don't what the final bore was, but it was a beast.

There use to be a local raceway in town that he raced at. The only thing that car couldn't beat was a 427 Cobra AC or a few hemi's. In fact, he beat some of the Hemi's he went up against. He could beat the 289 Cobra's. To this day, I've wanted a SS Chevelle.

On a side note, my mom actually use to race. How cool is that? :-)

I was watching Speed yesterday and they were talking about the 1970 SS 427 Chevelle. They actually made a Covertible version. Only 22 were made. One went to auction last year and brough 170k. That is unreal.

I'm sorry, but thing looks like the new cadillac/corvette hybrid car made love to a Mustang and had a bastard child. It's very, very ugly if you ask me.

I think Chrysler is making the best looking vehicles today.

yeah but the insides of chryslers look cheap? THey make a killer exterior and skimp on the the interior, at least on their base line.

then again, he did stress that this is only a concept, they did not give any details on whether they were actually going to bring back the camero or not.

I agree to some point. I think maybe not in the present tense, but in the recent past. There is a reason all pickups now look like the dodges of 1995, but the newest model year dodges look terrible to me. And the Magnum just never did it for me.

I'm the exact opposite. The Magnum, The 300, The Charger. I think they all look awesome!

i don't really care for the magnum or their pickup lines. lol, pickup lines. :headbang:
