CNet's Declan McCullagh explores the background of the man who won the RIAA's lucrative business for his DC law firm: "An article on his law firm's Web site says that Perrelli represented SoundExchange before the Copyright Royalty Board — and obtained a 250 percent increase in the royalty rate for music played over the Internet by companies like AOL and Yahoo," not to mention Pandora and Radio Paradise.

I haven't been impressed by his appointments thus far except his environmental appointments (imagine appointing people to environmental posts, that know something about the environment??).

Music is not his ONLY enemy, I fear a new and more stringent Assault weapons ban is on the very near future.

Obama has taken a beating from the moonbat Left since they learned they elected the third Clinton administration instead of the Messiah; he needs to do something to rebuild his left-wing cred.

He has no, or very limited moves on the economy; he can't raise taxes in the face of this brutal recession; it's awkward to pull troops out of a war that's apparently won; global warming has fallen off the radar as the snow continues to pile up...he needs a big flashy move, and we may well be that move.

Sources close to the Obama Transition Team acknowledge that a new AWB would burn a huge amount of political capital, but it will "drive a stake in the ground" to prove Obama means what he says about "change" regardless of consequences.

Ken Salazar of Colorado, was tapped to head the Department of the Interior and taken out of play. The Blue Dog Dems are less likely to band together this early in his administration against an Obama move, lest they open themselves to a flaying by the faithful. By putting Salazar in the cabinet he has removed the one blue dog rallying point have against starting a new AWB.

Every major cabinet member on the messiahs staff has been a Clinton AWB originating member. Gee can't wait until I'm forced to read his little black book and start using comrade to replace sir, mandated by the state.

I just quietly cringe every time I see another cabinet post. Whoever got the nod for the environment is still too left fringed for me. I just hope it hurts the leftists more than it does me, but somehow I doubt it.

Stimulus packages aimed at highways. Comeon, why not just say its a direct payback to the unions. Stimulus my ass.

Economy is too tanked to raise taxes, so lets just hide them in carbon credits added to our utility bills that will do nothing for the environment except line the pockets of $150k salaried enviro lawyers and lobbyists in NYC and DC. I just don't understand how you guys can't get this.

Buy a hybrid, electric, or biofueled car, well hell just tax the mileage on top of the gas tax. Afterall, we have to pay the highway and auto workers their $60+ an hour salaries. Then take 30% of their salaries and give it to the welfare minded voting block.


This clown isn't Clinton or Carter the 2nd, he's more like Johnson the 2nd. How much damage is another 40 years of demo controlled congress' going to do to America's future.

How long before 1 in 3 people will be working for the government? There are things that will be done that will be impossible to undo. Judges appointed that will rule from the bench, and no-bid contracts for billions in political payback.

Huge financial crisis, and still not one democrat has been indited or sitting in jail. If Bush had anything to do with it, it would have been smeared on every headline for months.

And what on Gods earth can you mean about Republicans. I only share the ideology of Reagan. Everyone since, except R Santorim and perhaps F Thomson have been lukewarm at best. Bush tried his wishy washy 'compassionate conservatism' which did nothing but give the press enough bait to hang him for anything, and don't forget he conjured up the 9/11 attack and called up hell in a hurricane.

You see when a federal judge or supreme court official does not know a law or a precedent of previous case has not been established, or a case has never been tried they review "leading law journals" for "think tank and in-the-know" people's opinion for those specific matters

The Joice foundation seeds these journals with negative gun information to help create a negative gun culture in the judiciary, to some degree it has worked for the last 15 years.

Look at his application for staff associated with his administration, question 59 – of 63-item questionnaire given to noblama administration job applicants – asks for information about firearms owned by the applicant and his or her family.

Found in the questionnaire’s “Miscellaneous” section, question 59 reads, “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”

Other questions in the Miscellaneous section ask about the applicant’s postings on Facebook and MySpace Web sites; health and medical status; associations with groups that could be used against the applicant; and any other information that could prove embarrassing to the applicant.

Although it’s not clear that gun ownership would disqualify a job applicant, question 59 shows the noblama team’s “distaste” for firearm owners.

Question 59 provides clear insight into how noblama and his people perceive firearm owners, The questionnaire poses a number of questions asking the applicant to reveal any unethical activities, or embarrassing Internet chats, then wraps up by asking if anyone in the applicant's family owns a firearm. Obviously, noblama feels that owning a firearm is akin to talking dirty in Internet chat rooms.

noblama – as an Illinois State senator -- voted for SB1195, which included a provision calling for gun owners to be registered in the same manner as sex offenders.

We have to ask ourselves just what candidate noblama was talking about when he said he has 'respect' for the 2nd Amendment.

No one ever means for political threads to become name-calling threads, but they do.

And it's pretty obvious how I'd feel about this, but yeah, the appointment sucks. The one thing we can hope for is that the RIAA work was just a job for him, and he did the job he was paid for. The current GM of the Pirates worked for the MLB front office previously. His specific job was to institute slot money for the draft, and to get the clubs to not pay over slot. His first draft for the Pirates, he went over slot a great deal and this encouraged a few talented players to sign rather than go to college. He did the job required of him.

Part of me agrees with Doc on this. Calling Obama Nobama is kind of childish but then again this is America and freedom of speech carries with it the right to make comments like that. Lots of people from the left have done MUCH more against Bush, Palin etc...

What angers me is the left always bitched about the right using Obams's middle name. Every time we said Barrack Hussein Obama the left got pissed off. Now that he is elected it is not only okay but was reported he will use it when he is inaugurated.

It is the double standards all over the place that piss me off. When you are a democrat, it is different. Trust me I see a LOT of comics and posters all over the place at work here at the University. Gathering posters that blatantly say things like "The damages Bush has done" and "the worse administration since ...." Professors offices that have all kinds of anti Republican things all over the place as well as on the bulletin boards. If I ever put ANYTHING anti-democratic I would never hear the end of it, especially about Obama. He is portrayed as the next coming of Christ around here. There is a HUGE double standard in this country.

Well Paladin to answer some of your questions, the Democrats got upset about his middle name being used as Fox and others used it, trying to link him to Saddam. I think him using it at the inaguaration is smart, because at some point some day the mass of Americans need to learn that Muslims are not an evil group of people. Like any religion there are some on the fringe who are fundamentalist and do crazy things. By using his middle name maybe that'll eb a push towards one day. Maybe one day 'Hussein' almost equivalent to the name 'Smith' here won't be used as a tool to conjure negative issues

As for your "double standard". You work in a very liberal area (a university), you will be subjected to liberal opinions. If you worked in a very conservative environment you would find it would be hard to mention Obama without trouble. Kinda like me coming to Pittsburgh as a Dolphins fans, if I wear the Dolphins shirt I have to expect some hassles.

Dude, there are jerks on both sides of the lines. From your point of view, it's the ivory-tower liberals. From my point of view, it's them, plus the religious right. Not all libs are of the hippy-dippy type, and not every 'pub is a religious righter, but they exist, and they're freaking annoying. Extremists of any stripe are annoying, unless you are as well, and they're your type of extremist. 🙂 Imo, extremists exist just to show the folly of taking ANYTHING too far.

Seriously tho, my daughter goes to CAPA which is a liberal arts and music school. I'm trying to teach her self-reliance and conservative principles, and all her teachers are praising Obama as the next messiah, and Bush is the devil. Thats just not right in a high school environment.

Of course much of the funding is from bleeding hearts, but I didn't expect the indoctrination to be so direct.

I wouldn't use the word tainted for the university. I would say that universities as a whole tend to have people who lean liberal. There are many who don't though. I also don't believe that means any sort of science or education is wrong for instance. Someday our country may come back to the idea that educated people are just that, educated. That doesn't make them better, but it makes them on the whole more knowledgeable about their specific subject matter. Maybe then we can trust scientists to know science and geologists to know geology and maybe we will trust their opinions more than talking heads on TV or radio who know.... what do they know well??.... talking on the radio or TV and how to get and maintain an audience.

I think Bush has earned the right to be thought of as evil by educators. No child left behind did nothing more than leave all the children exactly that... behind. His threats/policies of revoking federal funding for schools that teach anything beyond abstinence only is evil (also where did the separation of church and state go again?)

Obama's choice for the head of the FCC is supposedly Julius Genachowski which hopefully will offset the RIAA goon.
