Pubs hitting Dem's vote buttons and vice-versa. . .ever see those campaign ads where one opponent slams another for their votes? Makes you wonder if they even voted for that! Not that being absent for these votes is much better. . .

Hell, this takes place in every state legislature. This is how they cover each other for all their days off. 60-90k a year to show up when they feel like it. Damn shame.

You know, I could see SOME measure of this going on, if it were controlled, and verified that the missing person gave a certain person the go-ahead to cast their vote in their absence . But the way they're jumping around hitting buttons, and the way Dems are voting for Pubs and vice-versa, it looks like ppl are just running around taking advantage of the fact these ppl are missing to cast extra votes their way.

Maybe reps could have a sealed envelope delivered to their party head, containing a signed document casting their vote for a specific bill, and that document is displayed to the other party's head and put on file. Some sort of an orderly, documented process for a specific vote, not this willy-nilly slapping of buzzers like a game-show. If there's no orderly, documented process, then if you're not there, you shouldn't get a vote. This is grade-school level behavior. "Hee-hee, Bob isn't here, now we have an extra vote - oh crap, Jim got to the buzzer first!"

OK lets at least make sure some facts here are straight. This is the Texas House of Reps, this was not the US house of Reps. I don't know that this is widespread throughout all states. I have been at rep hearings in my 2 states and this didn't happen, I have seen senate and house hearings at the US level and this didn't happen.

I agree that if you run for an office, you should be there when you are supposed to be there and even worse, if you aren't there their should be no vote allowed for you.

Let me also correct your salary assumption. In Texas a State rep makes $7,200/ year. In NH it's $100/yr, In CA it's $110,000.

Sorry Bubba, I was generalizing from our neighborhood. WV pays theirs 45k, Pa pay 60k plus a wild package of extras that usually adds up to another 30k (talk radio sources).

People bitch and bemoan this everyday, yet the same pack of wolves get re-elected every damn election.
