Normally I don't think online petitions stand any chance of succeeding, but as this is an official White House application on their website, maybe it has a better chance of a response.
SOPA is the Stop Online Piracy Act and unless you are a media company it is terrible. Here is an explanation of what is wrong with it.
Not really, they came out and said they don't support it but several articles have stated that GoDaddy helped write some of it and also made them exempt.
So even if they "don't" support it now, it's currently laid out to their advantage, their damage has already been done.
The whole SOPA fiasco is just another nail in the coffin for me and GoDaddy...ordering anything on their site is the worst experience in the world when all you want is a stupid domain and not the 300 other services you have to click through before you can get it.
I hate godaddy, but I can't resist cheap $1.99 .info domains. :-) If I register them for a second year, I'm definitely moving them.

BTW, so far Reddit has said they will go dark on January 18th in protest. I hope more large websites do the same. Call your Senators and call your Representative's to complain about the house version, PROTECT IP.
Hey Sarge, did you see the Whitehouse petition to have someone read the petitions? 😈 There is no way Obama will veto this. The RIAA controls the DoJ and they control this Bill.
any recommendations on Domain registrar's? I have 3 coming up this month and another dozen coming up in a few months on goDaddy and would like to move them.
I can't really help you with a registrar. I own quite a few domains and I set up a reseller account on Enom a long time ago. I just use GoDaddy for the cheap .info's, then move them over to Enom if I keep them past the first year.
And just as quick as SOPA was shelved, it is now back under consideration. It will enter mark up next month. Strange it was shelved just days before the Internet blackout and will sort of remain shelved until well after the blackout.

At least google did something. I believe their home page is pretty valuable though. Would have been nice for them to turn it black instead of just the logo though.

The amount of revenue that Google would lose if they 'shut down' for one day is enough for them to think twice about doing so...
Wikipedia is supported by donations... It makes no money from anyone going to their site. They can afford to black out their site for one day as the only people it hurts is the people that use their service. It benefits them as they get to look like the good guy that is making a statement.
Though, I think it is nice that these sites are trying to take a stand for freedoms and such.

These bills are scary. I was going to link to an article on BoingBoing that shows where all of this is going and how scary it really is. It was a great article from Cory Doctorow, but apparently BoingBoing is protesting SOPA/PROTECT IP. DOH!
Just one thing I wanted to point out. Monster Cable supports these bills because they want the right to shut down sites that allow you to resale their cables. Craigslist had a big write up on it. I'm sorry, but I'm soooooo tired of corporations controlling our government to benefit their bottom line. This is where I find capitalism to be a miserable failure. At some point, enough is enough.

Back to the alternate topic. Bubba, I took out a huge student loan for school my sophomore year of college so that I could buy a computer. It was a 486 100Mhz DX4. I thought i was hot shit. 17 years later, I am still paying on that student loan. But damn that computer was cool!
