The "web" is reporting that Owen Wilson tried to kill himself.
He is hospitalized and in detox. Reports could be wrong etc. but still

    WTF!!!!

These people have fame, TONS of money and all the hot babes. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS CRAP!!!!!
Why would you want to end it. MAN!!!!
I am still not over Richard Jeni.

It just goes to show you that even if you have fame, money and babes, there is still something else that one requires in life.....

I also think the pressure of expectations can take a toll on a person......

Owen is a Dallas boy and it was big news down here. I hope he makes it out ok...

Fame, money and babes may not be all one needs in life, but all I ask is the opportunity to find out for myself.

Truth is, having all the material things you could ever want will never make you emotionally happy. You still have relationships and many other things that factor into your overall self worth.

You can have millions, nice cars, fancy house, etc... But if your wife cheats on you and then takes off with the kids, you are an emotional wreck.

I don't know what Owen went through to push him to something like this, but I am sure that everything he has material wise wasn't on his mind at all.

I hope that he, and anyone else that would be going through the type of pain that he is suffering, gets well and realize that they're loved people that would be missed by many. Suicide is NEVER the solution to any problem and a person that is willing to even try to do it needs to seek help right away...

Now, to show my anger side to this issue...

Really?!!? How could any person be so selfish to sit there and try to off them selfs? No one ever thinks of how this would effect everyone around them.

Oh, sure, they think about "I'll get these fuckers for doing this to me". But they don't think about the people that they will crush and possibly push to trying the same thing as well.

I know pain is hard to deal with, especially emotional pain, but mother fucker go get drunk or something and find some friends to help you through the hard times.

You do not just effect you. You have been on this planet long enough to build bonds and relationships with others. You falling off into the deep end and thinking that death is the only answer is just a [maybe not intentional] way of fucking over a lot of people.

From what I've heard, heroin and a breakup with Kate Hudson. I can't imagine how or why he got started with the former, but either seem a likely cause for something like this. . .I think I might be suicidal if Kate Hudson broke up with me. . . 😉

I do not agree with this at all. If I had millions I would have sugar daddy girlfriends or high priced hookers. 😛
You do not pay them for sex, you pay them to leave! All guys want is sex in the end.

I can pay for female companionship as well. If she gets on your nerves or you get bored, hire another one. It is even better! No BS to deal with as you are in control!

Sure this sounds horrible to some people, but it is at least real and honest.

No worries about bills or housing or food. No worries if you want to buy stuff.

I already have friends I trust.

Come on... this money does not make you happy is BS as you can always RENT happiness!!! 🙂

Well, I can say one thing for certain: being broke sure does suck. I'd rather be rich and unhappy, as there are far more options available. 🙂

Paladin/Doc, I have to call Bullshit on you.....

The only reason you think the grass is greener is because you are focusing on the wrong things in your current life. I know, I was there.

Eleven years ago, I made $20k a year and thought money would solve all my problems. Since then, my wife and I have made over 6 figures together. Guess what? I'm worse off now then I was back then. I use to stress over credit and how much money I made. After my life took a 180, I now realize that you have to be happy before you get money or else the money will only make it worse.

I won't go into details, but the last 2 years have turned my life upside down. I'm worse off than I've ever been and you know what? I am happier than I've been in a long, long time because I know the importance of the people around me and understand the joy of just being alive.

Money only matters as much as it is an ends to a means, but the people around me make my life richer.....

I also bet you have ran up bills and filled up your debts to take the extra money you make. So basically you end up the same way, just at a higher level.

Sorry man but having money and I mean REAL money, like millions that stars have, would make you much happier than living with your wife in a dump with nothing but stress on how you are going to pay bills or even eat. No matter how much you loved each other. lack of money==major stress. Most marriages break up over money issues.

I have been in low points, and not that long ago mind you, in my life where I had shit. I lived on mac and Cheese and was down to littrerly $5 to my name with two weeks to go before I got paid. Putting gas and food on credit if I even could at all. Borrowing money when I had to. it SUCKED! Living in a cockroach infested apartment scared someone is going to break in at any moment. This was just over 10 years ago.

Even if I was married to the best person in the world, how can you be anywhere even close to happy with all that stress and worry over your head. That is total BS to say you could be and you know it if you are totally honest with yourself. Hey we are in the dark with no heat or electric, Yoo hoo...
As long as we have each other... Ohhh that is so sweet... and total BS! 😛

Okay you know what, being open minded, maybe it is true for some people. Maybe some people really can deal with all the stress and BS that comes with not eating or having enough to feed their kids. I personally could not live that way. Hell some people are poor and happy just drinking all day.

If you had millions and you could travel and never have any stress about bills, it would be better, at least to me, period.

Doc said it best. "I'd rather be rich and unhappy, as there are far more options"

See if you have money and your life still sucks, you can start over. Maybe travel and maybe find love again. Or just be anonymous and live in a small village near an Irish pub that serves real Guinness. Without money you have no options but to slave day in and day out.

Not to be mean but I think this is just something that people do not have money fool themselves into thinking to make themselves feel better. 😛

Good for you man. Seriously if you are happier that is great. I also should enjoy just being alive and really am.

When you face your own mortality like I also did, it does make you think. But health will always come first. I would rather be poor and have good health than rich without it. I do agree here but that is the only exception for me 😉

My health is not good and I would trade it for less money per year. But if I have to be in poor health, show me the money P)

    Good post.
Being rich and unhappy is better than being broke and unhappy - except when I have to slap the rich and unhappy person with a mackerel and tell them, "Cheer the hell up, you putz! Visit your attractive girlfriend, drive your fancy car, visit the many wonders the world holds." 🙂

I know that there's more to life than money, but financial security and flexibility removes some of the primary stressors of life - the need for food, shelter, and clothing, as well as fear of an uncertain future. It also means that if you WANT to go to Hawaii, you CAN go to Hawaii, if your car breaks down, you can get it fixed, and you don't have to live in housing projects where they hose the blood off the sidewalk at least once a week.

I think where some of the difference of opinion is coming into play is some of us have the "poor and (at least somewhat) happy" going on, and some of us don't. That's what I'm seeing.

One thing for sure: money can often help you keep your health. A job with good insurance (which is compensation for your work, money in a different form) can help you keep your health.

I entered the Guinness "Win a Pub in Ireland" contest a few times a few years back. That would be a dream 🙂

I've been broke and it's no fun. I've been moderately wealthy and it was great in terms of material things, but I had no time for myself or family (wife and I working all the time, someone else raising our kids while we work, etc). I'm currently living with about a month's salary in savings and putting a little back for retirement and worrying about how I'm going to pay for my little one's college (their grades or athletic ability had better be damned good is all I have to say.) I'm pretty happy, but there's a lot I would like to be able to do that I can't - travel being one of them. I'd much rather worry about things like this than worry about how I'm going to feed my family tomorrow.

I would be terribly happy to win the lottery. All gain, no pain! 😀

Hey Monk, you are in OKC huh? Cool. A lot of GRB's are too....

So the money's cool, it's just that sometimes the effort and time required to get it are too demanding. I can understand that.

Weird. I don't think I've ever met anybody online or IRL from OKC until I joined GRB. Now they're crawling out of the woodwork 🙂

Here's where I sat during last year's OU/TX game. There was a little pocket of OU people in the TX endzone. I shot a little clip of the TX cult of burnt orange singing their mantra (warning horrible audio). 😀
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz5ymPmhu6s

It was pretty fun until the 2nd half when OU fell apart. We left with one minute left and that was a loooong walk up and out of the Cotton Bowl, like running a "OU SUCKS!" gauntlet. Once out of the stadium, everyone was pretty friendly though, even had a couple beers bought for me by TX fans. They were ecstatic about winning again after five long years.
