Identifying a few individuals that seemed to have an immunity to AIDS points to possible gene therapy.

Immune cell transplants could treat several different kinds of cancers. As a TREATMENT, and not a drug, patents would not apply, and there would be no artificially high prices. Compared to surgery, radiation, chemo and patented drugs, this could be relatively cheap as well as effective.

Contaminated culture leads to testing of new cancer drug. May be effective against skin cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, maybe more.

Our knowledge is increasing at ever greater rates, yet for the past 10 years or so, it seems so little of consequence has actually changed: no new, drastically effective treatments for major diseases, just tweaks of the same old same old. It would be refreshing to see something come of all the research done and knowledge collected.

Those all seem very promising. It would be awesome to just worry about getting old instead of getting old and sick...or just sick.

Don't worry Sarge, they are now looking into a new disease called aging. They expect to have drugs that will combat that as well......

I'm with you Doc. All this progress, yet so little actually gets to the people that need it the most.

When i was a young kid.. i wanted to somehow come up with a cure for diseases. I remember talking to the teacher one day and i was like..... well one way they could probably do it is to take sort of a dialysis machine and mix a persons blood with rubbing alcohol and then filter the blood back out and back into the body.. The teach was like ummm justin if you did that, the alcohol would probably kill every single thing in the blood and kill the person as well.
