Just had 5 power blips that lost several hours of work. and I know save often, unfortunately the way the software works does not allow such things. In essence my data was corrupted.

    That blows. Sorry dude.

Why aren't/can't you use a UPS? If you can't save often, it would seem to me to be an easily justifiable expense.

One of those things where we are a non-profit, and even though the theory that a waste of a few hours should justify the $60, that is $60 that is non-existent.

In other words they are paying my salary regardless, but they aren't incurring $60 expense regardless... its hard to explain but almost makes some sense. All said if I pushed there would be a UPS, honestly hasn't been worth my time. Critical machines have UPSs. In fact at my desk I have two machines, mine and a server, the server is on a UPS, so while there is a UPS within 6" of my machine, it isn't plugged to one.

    fun huh? :-)

In HS, my programming teacher had a master kill switch. At any given time, he would kill the power to our machines. That's one way to beat save often into your head.

Try it out on Sarge and see how well it works. :-)

    That is mean.

Its hard to understand why there is an UPS 6" away from your computer and it is not plugged in.

Maybe you should just order a punching bag instead 😛

Nice side effect: It emits light in case of an electric short circuit.

I have a server plugged into it, I don't want to overload it./

Sarge took the day off today = no work lost 😀
On the flip side, my littlest dog blew out a knee ligament this afternoon as I watched her chase a squirrel 🙁

Sorry to hear that you were having power blips though Bubba. I'm sure that it helped your blood pressure immensely.

Dang Sarge. I'm sorry to hear that. My little 8lb MinPin has problems with her knee ligament. It tends to slide off her knee. We really have to watch her weight because of that.

Ooo Sarge I am sorry to hear it.

Ouch! What breed? What the hell's up with dogs today? Are they the couch potatoes WE are, is that why they're getting sports injuries now? Can't we get them to warm up a bit before their sprints?

A few years back, we watched our neighbor's rat terrier

blow out something in it's rear leg chasing OUR rat terrier around the yard.

I don't suppose it was cheap to fix.

Ppl 'free' their dogs around here when they deploy, so ours was a 'rescue' dog. We couldn't find room for the Akita. . .

Or this guy (Scottie?). . .

Or the Chow, the hound(s), the mystery mutts, etc, but we found 'em all a home. A few of them were just lost, so some of them did get back home. 🙂 The Akita was one of a pair, the other one got himself killed on the road outside our house playing a game of 50 mph tag. Wasn't pretty, for either the dog or the small pickup truck. 😱

The dog is a mutt. She's a mixed terrier of some sort, around 14lbs. Tough as nails but at almost 14 is getting old. We replaced one of her knees 4-5 years ago and that went well, but the vet is recommending that we don't do surgery this time due to her age. He said it should heal well enough for her to use the leg again but we will have a few weeks of her hopping around.

I hope hoppin' Frannie feels better soon. She should start delegating the squirrel-chasing at her age. You might want to suggest that.

Cool, now I know what to buywhen I start that combo disco/gym 😀 Functional by day, decorative all the time! Now to find a mirrorball/speedbag combo. You'll need sunglasses at night to train there. 😎

Yeah, I hope so too. Terriers are dogs with a strong character. And they love to chase so its quite a task to make her understand that it is not good for her.

I would like to introdruce my black cat which I found in December 2008 with a scar of a tail wound.
Now you cannot see anything - just feel - the tail must have been broken once.

I fancy Akitas - they are a nice breed. Due to time and space tho I decided not to keep a dog in the moment.

Referring to Bubba: It really does not matter if it is a song or punching bag as long as that makes you feel better. I hope this incident with data loss will not happen again any time soon and that you will find a solution.

Back to the original post, I can see the frustration of losing your work. Yesterday I was working on a 60deg pitched roof. One mental lapse and I damn near went over the edge.

So needless to say while I hurt in just about every joint from the recovery effort, I'm glad to be feeling the twisted muscles.

Wow Lexx..... I'm a big clutz, so I know to avoid roofs at all costs.

Geez, take care, man. That would ruin your life year month week day at the very minimum. Be safe, THEN get work done.

Yeah - I think we are all glad that you feel your muscles ache. At some times the very feeling of something like a muscle ache reminds you of the bare fact that you are a l i v e . Hopefully this state holds on for quite some time....Lexx. I just hope you will take enough care in future situations like this one. Roofs are always dangerous place to work on.

Ah, I've fell more than a couple of times. Falling a couple of stories into a rose bush is defo not the highlight of your week. I also used to just bounce, now I seem to break 🙁

That said, I'd rather retype or reinstall software than mind bones and bruises.

Still the almost was worthy of the same words as Budda had so elegantly written. Good thing we both love our work 🙂

Buddha is really good with words. I constantly learn new things when I read his posts. 😀
