    I just want to say, re-writinig a resume SUCKS!
    I have had my old tried and true rusume, probably like the rest of you, for years.

    Last week I had the chance to send it off to a true "expert" writer.
    All I have to say is that the truth hurts. The break down is as follows.

    Lethal Defects 0
    Disqualifiers 5
    Impediments 4
    Other 1
    TOTAL 10

    Most 'off the street" resumes score in the low 50's, thankfully mine was a 68. But that still is to low to pass the 10 second scan test that most hiring manages use.....

    So here I am, bought two new books re-writing my resume top to bottom, and they have offered to tear it up again for me....
    gawd I hate writing....

    Well, at least you didn't have anything lethal. I probably need to do the same thing to my resume so it is available if the right opportunity arises.

    I am probably in the same boat. I am in a catch 22 situation. I want a network engineer position and with my CCNA, I have more knowledge than I can show through job experience. I had a recruiter trying to get me an interview for a job that paid 10K+ more than I make. After talking about the lack of experience my resume showed for this particular job, I wound up having to pass.

    I'm seriously considering paying the $200 fee for creative-resumes through DICE. Who did you use Duck?

    I'm so sick of the chicken or the egg problem trying to get a network engineer position. Got experience? Nope? Sorry. ARGH!

    Tell you what I did (am doing..) sent my usual resume to them, they tore it apart, told me what was good, bad, ugly.
    They set up a web site for your critique, call you, then you go over the resume.

    They made ti offer for the 135 - 495 $ packages, I told them I would think about it.
    Went out and bought 3 good books on resume writing, used the critique they provided to re-write mine, and now I have sent it back to them for a 2nd go-round.

    The critique service is a free one thru career builder or thru their web site.

    since i'm in a different field (graphic design) i can take a little bit more liberty in the layout with my resume.

    i used this to apply for jobs in the chicagoland area, and got a job within a month. i guess it did the trick. =)
