Rifftrax- MST3K, the Next Gen

As many of you probably know, the guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000 have set up a website, and are selling mp3's of their riff's on many popular movies (sync and play!). They're starting to get guest riffers now. Follow the link for info on Mike Nelson and Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Houser, MD, Harold & Kumar go to White Castle, How I Met Your Mother) riffing on Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory! Now they get to riff on movies they never could afford to use before, and I'm very keen to see what Neil brings to the riffing. He's got to be a MST3K fan. No one with a real Hollywood job would do this just for the little bit of cash they'd offer.

wow... that IS interesting news.. It is hard enough to get my wife to watch the MST3k movies after "Manos" The Hands of Fate... now I get to surprise her with regular movies plus riff.. hah..

They did a good job with "Road House". I kinda like it anyway, so it worked on 2 levels for me. 🙂

"MANOS" is punishing. It drove a friend of mine, a 'Bad Movie Night" veteran, to beg me to switch it off. "Mitchell" saved the evening. I'm a die-hard MST3K fan, so I loved "Manos". I even have the re-imagined "Torgo's theme" on my mp3 player (as done by Mike Nelson).

So these ard DVD's of the movie riff's like they did on the show or Audio MP3's? I am confused here.
Netflix will be renting these?

Oh never mind, I am not into this anyway.....
I find it funny for about 15 min then gets old real fast. Same old boring stuff over and over....never was my thing.

MP3's they create so it's easy to sync with DVD's. Or mix into AVI's 🙂

It's supposed to help with syncing and playing off-disc audio commentaries with DVD's. I guess other ppl are making commentary tracks for DVD's as well.

I moved out to California about 10 years ago and reestablished contact with Josh. And Josh had… well, actually, I called Josh. Another Star Wars connection - my agent had me read for Jar Jar Binks. I didn’t have any way of recording my voice, so I knew Josh was in a band and he had that kind of equipment, so I called him up and said, “Hey, can I borrow your recording thing? I gotta do this stupid voice for this Star Wars, which could be cool, but I’m reading the script and it’s just… oh, the dialogue is horrible! It’s almost bad Jamaican patois…”

QS: So he had written the patois in there…

BEAULIEU: Yeah, yeah. I got like three pages, and there’s this creature speaking to a Jedi master. And I didn’t know. I thought, “Boy, this is really awful! Oh well, must be good, though!”

QS: How could it not? It’s Star Wars!

BEAULIEU: Yeah! It’s gotta be cool. So, fortunately, that didn’t happen, but I started hanging out with Josh again, and he had this offer to do the reimagined version of AFV after Bob Saget left. They were doing it as a more, I guess, later in the evening thing. It was about 9:00 on a Friday. And they had Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang as hosts. So it was a reinvention, you know? And Josh asked me if I wanted to come in and apply for the job - or audition, I guess, for the job - and that’s how that happened.

I like how he says, "Fortunately, that didn't happen" wrt getting the job voicing Jar-Jar 🙂
