Heh, I just wanted to drop a quick note about this school thing.
It took 20mins to navigate downtown this am, so commuting past the city limits would be tiring at best. There are no school buses so public transit will be essential. Thats kinda creepy since about 4 weeks ago I wouldn't even let her walk around the neighborhood. Too protective 🙂
Its like leaving middle school on Tue and starting college Wed. Principle made out her schedule (now I know what a headmaster feels like). Man, what a stern woman, lol. I sure wouldn't want to get on her bad side. What a difference from public to private makes.
Academics are a grade higher so she will have to put in 9hr days to catch up. Got a quick look at her french class, only 4 kids! Half of each day is divided between academic and creative, so she will be on piano everyday. The only negative is there are no sports at all, not even a gym.
I wish her luck. Hell when I was 14 all I worried about was delivering some newspapers and commiserating once a week at piano lessons.
I'm sure she'll do fine once she figures out the schedule. Seems like a great opportunity for her. High School sucked so bad when I was there. Makes me jealous of some of the options that kids have today.

My Cousin attended the LA County High School of the Arts in the late 80's. It's the sister school of NY SotA, aka FAME. She had to take the LA public transit for over an hour each way. It meant that much to her to put up with it. Kids can do anything if they believe in it.
I kind of wish I had been pushed harder when I was a kid. My biggest problem wasn't lack of ability, it was boredom. Heck, my parents threatened to send me to Military School and I said I wanted to go. I bet that shocked them. ;-)
Thanks. She is a fairly good composer already. Two solos with original material in middle school. The only problem with that was the kids started beating her up in the hallways or on the bus out of jealousy, thus the need to look for another house. I've been trying to get her enrolled there since Apr of last year. Sept 30 was the last day on the waiting list. What luck!
My biggest problem at that age is I wanted cars and motorcycles, so school took a backseat to working two jobs after school. Still, I managed to graduate with college prep and vocational credits. Just took me until 20 to start using it ;p
Anyways, she made it home today ok. She said one of the professors that was at her audition told her he was really glad to see her. All the kids welcomed her warmly and everyone asked 'whats your major?' hehehe. She loves it so far.
Prepare yourself fellows. Your only 5-10 years behind me 😉 I'd recommend anything artistic or sports related you can afford for your kids while growing up. It will make a diff once they hit 13 or so.
Our daughter is well rounded. In pre-school, we have her enrolled in Dance and Computers. Nothing beats an athletic Geek, I mean just look at Bubba.... What a minute, did I just say that? 😈
The coolest thing ever was my Boss when i was doing IT had a daughter. She came in the office at one point when she was maybe 3. She was board so she would goto a computer and sit down and play games on the web...
So I noticed half way through the day that she had used a RedHat Machine, a Mac and a PC during her time, she was fluent in all of them. Most of my coworkers at the time were not.
Hey given my choice I would have stuck to athletics, but well I would not be where I am not if I hadn't chosen engineering classes over college football. Sometimes I wonder where I would be.
Ay, I never trusted sitters, so I always shared taking them to work with me. My kids got computer savy while tagging along with mom at a tender age. There are always macs and at least one PC connected to the internet for research.
I've spent hundreds for childhood lessons. I've tried gymnastics, dance, karate, soccer, baseball, and football. None of those helped. The only sport I've been able to keep them playing is tennis, probably because I took them out for that myself. At least she played a couple of matches at Perry before leaving this week.
It can be tough scheduling around these activities, but in the end its a more balanced lifestyle, especially with TV, xboxs, gameboys, etc., not to mention the countless hours of other kids calling. Egads, I hate that more than anything.
Thats a shame Bubba, although I'd bet without seeing you play you probably made the better decision. Lots of factors there, injuries, status of college your going to, your personal size and stats for 4 years. The draft is pretty tough to get into, but if you make it I guess the fame and money more than make up for the other sacrifices.
Ah, at least you get to boss around Sarge everyday. That should take some edge off the 'what if' feeling 🙂
Haha, oh the jokes I've endured a lifetime. When I lived in Seattle and Boulder, everyone hounded me on my accent. Truth is I grew up 10 miles *above* the Mason Dixon Line, so by all accounts I'm a yankee 😉
