    SELECT A CANDIDATE FOR 2008

The following is an interesting exercise....

You answer a few questions then click the "find your candidate button" and the program selects the candidate who's position on the issues is most like your own...

You may be surprised at what you find.......

You can put any zip code you want, then it will not give them true data and they wont know where to campaign at.

    Click the link below....

I got a 70 for Thomson, a 7 for clinton. Still sticking with Rudy tho.

This confirms my theory that there is truly no one running that can give me what I'm looking for. Probably more importantly, I now know who not to vote for 😀 I am a bit surprised that Guiliani scored so high, but I would never vote for him.

Looks like the only one I "agree" with on Iraq is Sam Brownback, and that's the only thing I "agree" with him about apparently 😀 I say "agree" because I'm not sure any of the options presented are what will work and went with the one that seemed the least stupid.

Did Fred Thompson age like 50 years in the last 6 months? He didn't ever look that old on TV.

I am a little surprised myself. Guiliani got top spot, but he was the same score as Sarge. Although, I disagreed with him on some of my key issues, Immigration, Line Item Veto and Iraq. That alone is enough for me to ignore him.

Firefox + adblock plus=Sarge has to tell me these things 🙂

BTW, I am an 18 year old female living in Beverly Hills. At least, that's what the polls think. That should have them all messed up. :-)

Sarge, do you realize you lean more towards my side, then I lean towards yours? We are dead even on Guiliani, while the top Dem's are mega low for me. 😛

    🤥

    j/k

Like most people, I'm really more of a centrist. The current political climate doesn't really support that however. You are either conservative or liberal, there is no center.

The problem with those polls is that the answers that they provide are determined by what the candidates say, not what you truly think should be done. There were several questions where I picked the answer that I thought made the best sense out of all of them. Unfortunately it doesn't mean that I think it is the right answer or best answer.

    I agree with the above.

Sarge no wonder you and I argue. You and I are almost the total opposite here. All of my high scores are Republicans until I hit Biden at 24%. Everyone below that are Democrats.

I do not believe you are as centrist as you think you are. This is why you hate being called a "L" word. 🙂

The thing I liked is it really does define the line based on specific issues. It was VERY consistent in my case based totally on my views and not on the person.

Yah, Sarge, I have to agree. Centralist?? The top 5 candidates in your list are ultra libs, if not socialists.

  10. #10
    🤣 🤣 🤣, socialists. You.crack.me.up.

I don't hate being called a liberal. I hate that you two feel that all the problems in this country are caused by "F***ing liberals" or perpetrated by the "liberal media" as you so often put it and refuse to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, there are others who share the blame.

You guys are so far right, I'm not sure that you know where the center is. In case you didn't notice, the highest score for me was 42. That's 42% agreement and that is based on me applying the closest answer to what I really think should happen.

Another thing is that the positions as espoused by most of the Democratic candidates on most of those topics are not necessarily "liberal". Most of them are decidedly conservative from a democrat perspective. The certainly pale in comparison to the ultra-conservatives that seem to set the republican policies but that's like comparing apples to oranges.

I finally saw the Fred Thompson ad.... Teh Funny.....

The problem with the Republicans today is the influence of the Christian Coalition. I'm a Fiscal Conservative in the Ronald Regan kind of way, but when it comes to social issues, I can't stand the CC.

This is also why I don't care much for the Democrats. I hate their ideas on spending and taxes. I also hate the idea of more government to solve our problems. Then again, Bush has mastered this. So, I'm turned off by both sides.

There really needs to be a solid third party, so we can move in when everyone gets tired of the old guard.....

Maybe just maybe you will also admit when your side and the media is wrong.. Maybe..
I admit when the right fu**s up believe me. Do not even get me started on how badly Bush dropped the ball on the immigration issue. He is a moron on that one.

My highest was only 52% for what it is worth. I am NOT a conservative, (I like my porn 🙂 ) but I agree more with them than the left. I am more libertarian in a lot of ways.

I want tax cuts, it works for the economy. They work and should be permanent. Reganomics works period! The government has more coming in with the cuts then ever before. Now we need to get the damn spending under control and the right spends as much as anyone if not more.

I think the government should stay as much out of things as possible. We do NOT need them to run health care etc.. Let the private sector handle it with competition. Give some health credits if need be towards a plan of your choice but do not run it. These are the people that run the IRS and we do NOT want them manging our health care.

We need to stay in Iraq until they can manage for themselves. If we should have went in to begin with is another matter. I am honestly unsure, but we are there so lets finish it.

Sarge the Right have let me down many times and yes they are idiots as well on a lot of issues.

I will say though that most of the media is liberal and it IS the cause of a lot of problems. If you wish to discuss this I will. We are NOT hearing about a lot of things that are going on and most people are completly mislead on issues. The media does not tell you things it should and discloses a lot of things it should not.

Paladin, that was probably the best post I've ever seen you post.... Good Jorb!

On the subject of Healthcare, I agree and disagree. I agree that we do not want the government running the system. However, in this case, free competition is not working. In fact, I would dare say it's not working because of the involvement of the government. The system is broken and it's going to take efforts from everyone to fix it.

And don't get me started on credits. They already passed that bill. YOu have to send money into an expense account, then you have to submit receipts to get it back. If you don't spend enough to cover what you put in, you loose it. Seriously, how many people know exactly how much they are going to spend over the next year. ARGH!

I remember a post by Bubba that said he would never vote for a republican. That is the difference with me.

If a Democrat was top of that Candidate list and agreed with me on the issues the same way, I would vote for them in a heart beat.

It is the person and the issues, not the party!
it just so happens that the right is where i agree with for the most part.

If it did not cause major arguments I would love to discuss each of those poll questions one by one.

Looks like Mittey is the guy who agrees with me... doubt he will make it though. Agreed with all but two of his policies and those two he was close enough to my choices that I could pick his choices. and his wife doesn't look too bad either.. -oh wait that is not a good reason to pick people-.. then again neither are these polls.

You are 100% wrong, in fact I have voted for fewer democrats than republicans and third party. I have mostly voted for republicans. What I complained about was that our ballot let you with one check mark vote for an entire ticket for 1 party... that is just F'n stupid, make the people put their x in the box for every race. voting for a stright ticket with 1 check box is wrong!!!

Now much like Atomm, I actually beleive this country needs to get it's head out of it's ass in regards to religion, it is clearly defined in our constuition that there will be a separation of church and state. Why then do we revoke funding of schools who teach anything but abstinance?

I also agree with Atomm on healthcare, it's broken. It will take everyone working together to fix it. Is there a reason everyone in my office needed a glossy 30 page pamphlet explaining pre tax dollars today?? Maybe if that was an email or a black and white paper we could start to afford health care. Ever notice in your drs office that it is nearly 2-1 people covering the insurance and payment as opposed to giving health care. How many businesses get away with having twice as many administrators than do-ers? Not mine, we have 1.5 administrators to 13 do-ers

The problem with the system is not anyones to bear 100%. The problem is that all politicians suck they are the rich who never had to experience life in a real way.

Lastly, if you think a 10 question multiple choice quiz can really give you any guidance on politics your couldn't be more wrong.

I apologize Bubba. I think you meant you would never register as one. My mistake.

I disagree as what else do we have? I am not saying in any way that it should be the end all decision maker but how they vote and what they say on key issues is a guidance man.

I thought it was a fun discussion Lexx started. I am sorry you feel otherwise.

Actually I partially agree with Paladin. I believe that these polls/quizes are not good as a basis but they sure opened my eyes as to the candidate. Amazingly enough I followed the links through to Mittey's website and listened to some of his talks read about some of his ideas and overall got a better feeling for the different politics. Basically I agree with Paladin saying that these are useful, just that they are useful to open up your blinders from the standard videopeople/large names. It gives you the ability to see a larger spread of the available choices.

I think it is a fun discussion, but as far as guiding me in deciding who I should vote for it's not really any help.

I appreciate your earlier post Pal when you stated some positions on particular topics. I certainly disagree with you on many of them....

I freely admit when I think the Dems are wrong. For instance I think trying to set a deadline for an Iraq pullout is just plain stupid and counterproductive. On the other hand, I don't think that "staying the course" is the correct way to go either. So far I haven't seen a plan offered by anyone that I think will work there, and maybe that is the answer - nothing will work.

In regard to the media though, I truly believe that they generally report what others do and what we want them to and I don't understand how they could be the cause many of the problems. I can see how they might perpetuate them, but I can't think of any that they are the direct cause of. Granted I think that there are certain biases but overall, the media are simply following the tried and true method of sensationalizing what will sell. Therefore, anything with blood, money, or scandal will generate the big headlines that they need to sell papers or ad space or whatever. I just wish they would stop adding "gate" to the end of every political scandal that comes along 🙄

There are just too many things to disagree about in this thread. I can't keep it all straight 😄

I will say that I have liked some of the things that Romney did as Governor of Mass. Particularly on the environmental and growth control side of things. He also shook up the Mass Turnpike Authority pretty will iirc.

Sure, these type of polls are not all inclusive, but it also opened my eyes. I haven't made up my mind. I was interested in Guiliani and Obama, but after this poll, I might consider a few others I had never heard of.

I will say, I hope a republican wins, but that is because I prefer the president to be the opposite party of the majority in Congress. Then again, the less government does, the better I like it and nothing slows them down like a good old fashion political stalemate. :-)

Candidates are picked by liberals and conservatives. Never going to change as long as primaries are closed, which of course keeps out independents which both sides hope won't show up for the general election. Its a foregone conclusion whoms going to be the democrat candidate, the republican is still up for grabs... however I wouldn't be surprised to see the Christian collation put up their own guy, thus splitting the ticket. Dems win by kneejerk stupidity. Perot all over again. Clinton1 never won by 51% in either of his runs. You can bet Clinton2 will win and probably select Obama/Edwards for vice. They won't take chances this time.

Bubba is right about the straight ticket. J.Jackson drags bus loads of illiterate people that only know to pull one lever or check one box.

My greatest fear is Clinton2 wins and pulls 6-8 more demo senate seats. They will have 58-60 seats, the magic number to get everything they've been wanting for the last 25-30 years. There will be no way to stop her from giving 5k to each baby born, or completely nationalize health care, make every gov job union only, etc, etc.

Of course there is Nader, but I've read he is not going to toss a wrench into the machine this time.
