Wow, and they did it with a mere $140 million payroll! 😉

I didn't think they'd do it either, being in the hole that much. I remember when the Pirates came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the '79 world series. Helluva comeback, both times. Enjoy, Sarge!

Well, the $140 million payroll is so that they can compete with the Yankees spending $200 million every year and that is who we play to beat every year.

Any how....I plan to enjoy the games as best as I can from the comfort of my living room. It really irks me though that the games don't start until 8:20 each night. It was 12:30 before last night's game was over and that is just too late. Not one of the World Series games starts early either which means my kids won't be able to watch with me 🙁, except for maybe the first few minutes of the Saturday game.

Move to a better timezone. I did. 😛

Ha, I could care less who is in the series. Just glad Pirates radio won't interrupt my afternoon radio shows for another year 🙂

I think the Rockies were a bit "rusty" after their 9 day layoff. The Sox were not.

Congrats to the Sox on winning the World Series. The rest of the games are a formality - I've seen this kind of mis-match before. The Rockies lost BADLY, and that was their best pitcher. That's what a $90 million differential will buy you. When you set out to beat the Yanks, you're pretty much assured to beat everyone else as well.

At least the Rockies had a good run, and got to the series. They had to be impossibly good in September just to get to the playoffs, and they were.

I'm not going to give it to them that easily. I think they might have some trouble in Denver. Big Papi will have to sit, and the outfield is huge there which does not bode well for Manny.

True - and good pitching doesn't seem to be as important there. . .but I bet Boston wins all their home games, and splits at Colorado.

I just found out yesterday that they keep the balls in a humidor at the stadium to help offset the fact that the air is thinner and the ball travels farther. Looks like most ballparks are moving towards that type of system as well.

I like ramen noodles. I also love taco's... 🙂 I am not a taco Bell fan but there tacos are good.

I eat a cup of noodles almost every day for lunch. Well it is really Instant Lunch from Maruchan but it is the same thing. 🙂

2-0. Now the big issue is who to sit and who to play first in Colorado. My vote is to sit Ortiz for a game and see what happens. You can always bring him up in a clutch situation when the pitcher is the hitter.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't know if a right-hander or a left-hander would be pitching.

Let Ortiz and his bad knee rest, maybe use him to pinch-hit, or do a double switch late in the game.

The games at Coors should be interesting. You never quite know what's going to happen.

Congrats to the Sox on their sweep of the Rockies in 4 straight. Pittsburgh native, and President/CEO of the Sox, Larry Lucchino, must be thrilled.

As it turns out, some folks didn't think he would be a suitable owner. Glad we sent him on his merry, because the group that DID buy the Pirates did so well for us.

And yes, every baseball thread has to be about the Pirates. 🙂 Mainly because the Pirates have screwed up so many, many ways that almost every baseball conversation includes some way the Pirates could've been better. Prince Fielder is doing well? We passed on him. . .this pitcher or that pitcher is leading the league in wins/ERA? We gave up on him/passed on him/traded him for a month's rental of Benito Santiago, who we released in the spring. . .never to return to baseball. Now this guy, who's been behind 2 world series wins, could've been our owner. It's like "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon", but you don't need more than one degree. . .

I must say I did not expect them to sweep. It was great to watch all the players contributing to the success of the team and not just relying on a couple of guys to carry us. Seeing the rookies play so well was especially gratifying as it bodes well for the future too.

And now that A-Rod is out of a Yankees uniform things are looking better there as well 😛
