My favorite beer depends on what I am doing. For a night of drinking, very little beats a Newcastle Brown unless you are at a micro-brewery and are drinking the house stuff. If I am having a meal, I often like a Guiness with it as it is a good sipping beer with lots of flavor and it is also ok if it gets warm.
Right now I am drinking a Magic Hat "Jinx" seasonal ale. Magic Hat is a Vermont micro-brew and makes some good stuff.
Was out in Denver last fall and drank way too much of the New Belgium Brewing Co's "Fat Tire" Ale. That stuff is awesome, especially on tap and every bar in Denver has it (at least all the ones I went too).
Been looking for a brew called DogFish Head 90 Minute IPA around here. Has a 9% alcohol and is supposed to be excellent. I think there is one place in Portsmouth that carries it, but don't get over that way too much to look around. I also think I saw a delivery truck taking some into the Tavern across the street from my office yesterday. That will definitely have to be investigated.
I am a Sam Adams man. But I will occasionally be found drinking some Kiliians if it's on tap there is just something about a Killians off tap that rocks
Now you are talking! Yuengling is good. Definitely a local favorite and I will drink one of those over a Budweiser ANY day. Around here if you go into a bar and ask for a 'Lager' you will get a Yuengling! I love Guiness too but for some reason I have it in my mind that dark colored beers are for winter, lighter colored beers are for every other time! Guiness is good anytime though it's usually a bit more expensive... I guess cause it's imported. Magic Hat... WOW! I used to bring that back from Vermont back in the day. In fact Lisa (my wife) and I were just laughing about how we used to take beer home from Vermont and now we take Hop Devil up there when we go. Magic Hat has a lot of good beers. I like Blind Faith and Heart of Darkness the best. The thing you'll eventually find with their brews is they use the same yeast for all of them so after a while you notice how they all taste the same... or at least very similar. Took me a long time to get tired of them though. Dogfishhead's 60 and 90 minute IPAs are VERY excellent brews. They are the perfect beer when you are walking home from the bar. The 60 minute IPA is plenty good. To me it compares very favorably to Hop Devil and if I had to choose it would be a struggle. The 90 minute I have only had in bars since it is something like $150/case!!!! It's really delicious but the price makes the 60 minute taste better to me! S@rge, if we get the chance to, I am sure we could do a lot of damage to some delicious craft brews. Maybe someday... :cheers: :drink:
I am probably the odd man out. Coming from Oklahoma, we had very restrictive laws on beer. In fact, it was 3.2 alcohol. You could get stronger beer, but only in a liquer store and only if it was an "import".
Personally, I love Michelob. Budweiser would be my next choice followed by Fosters. I also like JW Dundee's Honey Brown.
I use to like heavier brown beers, but as I've aged, I think I prefer lighter yellow beers. However, I can't stand Coors or any Mexican beer. I don't want runny water beer. Yea, I know, The bud family beers seem watery to you, but next to Coors or Mexican beer, they are heavy. :-)

So, we've talked about the quality beers. What about the cheap ass beers you drank in college? What did you like?
For me, it was Milwakee's Best. I actually like the taste of it and a six pack was a couple of bucks. I spent many a night drinking "The Beast" in college.....
You know I like Heineken beer for cheaper stuff. Fosters is not too bad from what I remember actually. Did some corona's with lime many times. Did the coors thing, Bud thing etc... Living in Pittsburgh we did a lot of Iron City beer, you know...
I did not do those too often though. I really never drank that much all in all. I never did or even tried drugs, proud of that one. I am boring really.
I never lived the normal college life thing either. I missed out on a lot growing up as I have been on my own since I was 18. Always had to work etc...
See in college we learned to have the first 2 or 3 as Sam Adams so it tasted good then we would switch to cheaper beer cause you didin't taste it at that point anywho. Although I will say there was this local microbrewery called "Paper City". Every Friday night they would have a party. At the door you would pay $3 and they would give you a glass. Beer was free all night. Then as the party ended you could give them the glass back for your $3 back or you could keep the glass. Also throughout the night they would raffle off cases and 6packs. It was GREAT beer too. Loved that place.

We used to partake of "The Beast" in college - now I think I would puke. The one "cheap" beer that I still like and will drink is Labatts. It just tastes good to me. I tend to stick with the darker brews, although IPAs have been tasting pretty good lately as well.
To sum up. Deep down I am a very angry and violent person. Dropping my inhibitions would be bad thing...m'kay.
In the meantime, I'll be designated driver and drink something caffinated, thereby letting everyone else have their fun. I'll be sure to have my camera on me to presever the evid- I mean memorys. For the purpose of blackma- I mean naustalgia. :yay: 😉
Bubba, we had a similiar way of doing things when we were in college. We would take a big Jigger shot of Wellers 151 Whiskey right before leaving. It would hit us about the time we walked up to the bar. Then, it was cheap ass beer all the way since we had a good buzz and we couldn't taste it anyway..... :-)
Man, I forgot about those days. And yes, we either took a taxi (if it was close to home) or had a designated driver....
Man I will tell you we used to do alot fo walking, my campus didn't have taxis... but town was a few miles out, we would always walk home from whereever we ended up. Remember hitching and walking abuot 18 miles back to campus one night.
