The Beer Thread

Saw this Great American Beer Festival 2006 (Hymen must have been the judge for Best Large Brewing Company) and it inspired me to give it's own thread.

Old Milwaukee Light and "The Beast" light must have improved considerably since I was in college. That or they used college students as the judges and made them buy their own beer.

I have a 6 pack of the Sam Adams Oktoberfest in my fridge - it is really quite good.

Haven't had a lot of the beers on that list, but then again I didn't know that there were quite so many types of beer out there. I think they must have made some up specifically for this festival.

Some favorites:
Otter Creek Copper Ale - VT microbrew
Newcastle Brown Ale
Guiness Stout
Dogfishhead 90 Minute IPA - microbrew from Deleware I think
Anything that you can get in a brewpub pretty much suits me as well 🙂

I heard Milwaukee’s Best Light was the third most popular beer (as in sales) behind Bud and Coors Light.

I don't know about today, but I actually started liking it in College.... heh

I always enjoy Kilians off tap though. No where near as good when it from a bottle though

HAHAH I remember many nights when DocJon and I used to be at a friends house and tapped a Party ball or three of Kilian's. Kilian's is a real good beer..

As far as favorites I only have one.
Bitburger from Munchin Geermany.

I have to pick up a case every time I drive to Boise. Only place in Idaho I can finde it.

As far as other beers, I usually do not drink the same 6 pack twice. Lately I have had Rolling Rock, Sam Lite, Sam regular, Sam October, Carona, Carona lite, Bud Select (sucked ass), Henry Winehard select, Bass pale ale (sucked, but not as bad as bud) Nolson, Labats.

Beer is beer, unless it's Bitburger to me.

Over here I try to find the darkest beer I can. Dunkles is a real dark one that I get when I go out to eat. When I first got here we went to a monistery and asked for the strongest one they had and one glass about knocked me on my ass. It was outstanding and the only way they could explain it to us was it was the stuff that has sat the longest, something like the bottom of the barrel. I wish I could remember the name. I'm thinking bak but I'm not sure.

hmmmm. Maybe a porter or a bock beer?

If you are looking for something with a kick to it here in the US, try to find the Dogfishead 90 Minute IPA. They only sell it in 4 packs due to the high alcohol content 🙂 It tastes real good as well 🙂

I'll have to give it a try. Over here I find one I like but cant remember the name. But I'm having a great time taste testing.

True German Bock's are the pressings (cylindrical) of the wooden casks from the end of life of a wooden barrel.

So say the brewer is retiring a barrel they would tap the last beer from the barrel, insert the bock press to get all the soaked beer from the wood.
Call it bock.
Double bock is a barrel that has been pressed once then soaked for a (week or month forget which) then pressed again.
Triple bock would be the last and final water/press treatment.

Had it once in my life, German brewers usually keep it close to friends only. I was a friend of a Poletzi captain in Stuttgart and he knew a brewer that was retiring some kegs..... It ROCKED, from what I remember.....

Yah that was always something I found to be pretty funny in Germany. you could get beer cheaper than you could get coke or bottled water almost. I liked Bitburger a lot. Becks was always my favorite though. Licher was good too.

I think thats what it is because I have tried to ask for it again and no one seems to have it. Guess I'm going to have to learn to brew my own.
