The City of Pittsburg

Ok say for some reason a certain football team from Miami were to win this weekend. They would then play a game in pittsburg. If this were the case I will be booking a flight. My question to you all,

How hard would it be for me to get from teh airport to the Stadium via either taxi or transit? I found a bus route that gets me close to the stadium a mile or so walk at the end. Is the area around the stadium I decent enough area for a very large white man who grew up on a farm to be walking at 10pm?

Too bad the Pens aren't in town, I would love to take in one of their games someday too.

I think there should be a personal taxi service available (with city guide) for the immediate PGH area, at the cost of a beer or two, nudge nudge wink wink.

The mile or so around the stadium should be fine. It's common for ppl to walk around the area. I know when there are home baseball games, they close the Roberto Clemente bridge to vehicles so that ppl can walk across. The baseball stadium and football stadium are close together, and the area around there was supposed to be built up for ppl to hang out before and after games. I don't know how much of that actually ever happened, but there are supposed to be a couple decent bars, restaurants, and bars/restaurants around there. Probably overpriced, but not seedy.

The ex and I (and her boy, when I could get him to go) went to a lot of baseball games. We'd ride down on the subway and walk across, or we'd take a water taxi, which was nice, especially at night. . .but maybe not in winter. Pittsburgh is small compared to Boston, and any real gang activity we have is not in the stadium area, AFAIK. If you really want to avoid trouble, don't wear the logo of the opposing team. You'd probably be fine even doing that, but drunken assholes are the same the world over, and Pittsburgh is a drinking town with a football problem. 🙂

It's about 12 miles or so to downtown. I would think getting a taxi there would be very easy (but I've never done it). There are buses to be had, but I know nothing about it. Obviously, a lot of ppl who fly in want to get downtown, and during a big football weekend, that won't be any different.

Double-check your transportation FROM the game. Pittsburgh is The City Whose Sidewalks Roll Up At Night, so know for sure when the last bus leaves, and maybe have the number for a taxi on-hand, just in case. They were saving money a few years back by cutting back on later bus service.

What? 5 hours only? Take the limo/cab/ airport bus to/from the game. It will drop you off in downtown about 1/8 mile from the stadium. Like Doc sez, you can walk across the 6th St Bridge or take the water taxi over from Gateway Station. For this event it'd easily be worth the money each way. Do NOT take the public Pat bus!

1 mile radius.. Hm... there are a couple of neighborhoods I'd not venture into within that 1 mile, but that night security will be tight up and down the area as thats where 50% of the private parking lots are as well.

He means JUMP OFF the 6th street bridge, or take one of those Exxon Valdez, run in to the bridge and fall in to the water taxis.........

A taxi would be your best bet for convenience but they should have a shuttle right to the stadium I would think.

You are coming to town and we won't even see you, that sucks. Unless you would have time to eat before the game or something.

Actually most are cool around other fans but you never know.

I know better than to wear an opposing shirt in almost any city.. people can be nuts.

Honestly my first instinct was trying to fly to Miami for this weeks game. I was thinking of flying in Sat and sleeping on the beach and flying out Sun night. I couldn't get a cheap flight out until Tuesday. $700 for a football game is a little extreame, though the sun would be cool

Well everyone has a favorite second, and mine has always been Miami. I guess I was drawn to them the years Marino played there. Shame he never got a ring tho.
